He is her most dangerous temptation and now he is demanding her submission. Dare she take the risk?

Emotionally scarred in the horrific accident that took her husband's life, Lady Cranfield is imprisoned by her lingering terror of horses and carriages. She longed to be closer to the fascinating Earl of Ruel. She sensed intuitively that he could teach her how to overcome the terrors that held her in bondage.

And now she's willing to risk almost anything-her reputation, even her virtue-to find out. But what he proposes startles her.

When the shy, studious and socially awkward young widow approached him, Ruel instantly sensed she would be the sweetest, most submissive experience of a lifetime-if only he can gain her total and complete trust. He makes her a non-negotiable offer. His help in return for her submission and obedience.

But Lady Cranfield grew up neglected by her ducal parents, raised by servants and then later ignored by her handsome, charming husband. She's learnt to protect her heart at all costs and she trusts no one but herself.

How can the jaded Earl of Ruel break through her self-protective defences and show her how to love when he has spent his lifetime avoiding that tender trap?

She backed all the way into the bookcase.

“Why did you run away?” His deep voice settled in her belly, rich and warm, like crème brûlée on a cold winter’s night.

“Because I wanted you to follow.” She tried to sound sophisticated and seductive, but her voice choked off on the last word.

Ruel placed his hand on the shelf above her head and blocked her path to the door. His tall, solidly muscled body leaned over her, surrounding her with the sumptuous, sinful scents of tobacco, Scotch whisky and something masculine and undeniably dangerous. A slow, sensual smile stretched his hard mouth.

He appeared different. Softer. More approachable.

At the change, her insides seemed to flip over.

“Well, sweeting, getting us off alone was a very inspired idea.” He touched one of her fallen ringlets. “I am bored to distraction with endless talk of hunting and fencing.”

As he slowly wrapped the curl around two fingers, he brushed her collarbone. Fiery sparks tingled down her spine, so intense that she shivered. By some instinct she hadn’t even known she possessed, she arched her back, presenting herself for his assessment.

His eyes shone so vividly blue against his bronzed face that they resembled cornflowers. She swallowed tightly and wished for a long drink of claret. This more personal side of him suddenly seemed far more hazardous than his usually fierce exterior.

Well, no matter. There was nothing to fear. She would allow only as much contact as need be to get to know him a little. Since being torn from her lonely yet secure life in Ireland and thrust into Society at age sixteen, she’d spent her time allowing people only as near as was comfortable. She was an expert at emotional evasion.

It should be easy to regain her control.

But now, as rays of the late-afternoon sun played over his pale hair, turning it the colour of winter wheat, all her carefully rehearsed words flew from her mind.

 Say something—anything—else he will think you’re a bird-wit.

An intimate smile, one that invited her to play, tugged at his mouth.

“In a situation like this, alone with a gentleman, it’s perfectly normal for a lady to feel some apprehension.” His hushed voice, barely audible above the piano and boisterous singing from down the corridor, accentuated their isolation. His gaze became so piercing that she had to lower her eyes.

He brushed his fingertips over her cheek. “She will invariably ask herself if he will try to kiss her.”

She jerked her eyes back to his face. God, he couldn’t mean to—not yet, surely… Peculiar, heated chills swept over her. She tried to take a step back, but found her arse flush against the bookshelf.

He leaned closer; so close that his Scotch-scented breath tickled her face. “And just in case you are wondering, Lady Cranfield—the answer is most assuredly yes.”

She should demand that he put his arm down so she could pass by and leave. She really should. But she couldn’t stop looking at his hard mouth and wondering what it would feel like upon hers. He was so close to her that his breath blew on her lips. If she moved but a fraction, she’d be kissing him.

 Kissing him.

Dear God. Her breaths began to come very fast and short. Her throat went tight with a suppressed moan.

His eyes burnt as brightly as aquamarines. He looked so fierce. If he kissed her, if he dared… Oh God, it would be so harsh. That cruel-looking mouth could express itself no other way.

Excitement rushed through her, sending tingles to every point of her body, even her toes.

But no, he wouldn’t. Not yet.

He kept leaning closer. He didn’t close his eyes. Instead, he seemed to focus all the harder upon her.

Her heart pounding, unable to move away, she braced herself for his assault.

His lips brushed hers, barely. A gossamer caress.

 He lifted his head.

 It was done.

 Ended.

 And it hadn’t even begun.

He held her chin, appearing so cool, so unaffected. His kiss had seemed to sear her. An urge to put her fingers to her lips arose in her. She resisted it, for it would give away too much of how she was affected.

 Never show your feelings.

He traced his thumb along her lower lip, slowly, deliberately, as he studied her with eyes that now glittered with something powerful and predatory. Heat pooled in her belly..

She went weak all over, as if she’d lain in a sunny window seat for too long. Her knees almost buckled. She forced them to lock. To be strong.

It should not have affected her so profoundly. It had been just a peck—not a true kiss at all. William had poured out all of his skill upon her and hadn’t garnered even a tenth of the reaction in her that this man’s peck had.

Ruel traced her jaw line with his fingertips. Unthinkingly, she leaned in to his touch.

“Of course, once he has kissed her, then it’s his turn to wonder…” His voice sounded unnaturally loud in her ears. “How will she respond? Will she withdraw, or can he ignite some hidden fire?”

She sensed that he was toying with her. She didn’t understand flirtation—why had she imagined she could carry off this ruse? Was he making advances in order to have a laugh with Francesca and her simpering friends later? Hurt blossomed in her chest. She resented him for that. She ought to feel indignant, superior, uncaring—anything but hurt.

“Please don’t make sport of me.”

She cringed. Was that quavering, pleading voice really hers?

An infinitesimal pause. “Now, why on earth would I do such a thing?” His voice was as smooth as velvet.

“To please your vanity,” she replied, trying to regain her wits.

“Here.” He placed her hand to his chest. The contours of his muscles were hard, powerfully developed. Even more so than she’d expected. His body heat radiated through the satin and, beneath her hand, his heart’s beat was rapid and strong.

“Is that vanity?” He put a finger under her chin, giving her no choice but to face him. “Is it?” He gentled his grip.

The warmth in his voice settled over her like luscious hot chocolate. Melting her insides to quivering burgoo, rendering her speechless, unable to move.

“My dear, lovely Lady Cranfield, I am going kiss you again.”

EXCERPT
They reached their destination, and his escort opened the door to the suite. When he stepped inside, his heart jumped into his throat when he came face to face with Tasha. She’d been taken just as off guard as he’d been and her lovely astonished face reflected a very unwelcomed surprise. Before he could think, he heard himself raising his voice and roaring at her.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” This woman made him irrational. He completely lost his composure and stalked to where she stood, grabbed her arms, and shook her. “I asked you a fucking question! Answer me!”

Watching her transform, he felt her angry heat but, being past rational thought, was not prepared for her response when she jerked herself free. He felt the sting of her hand connecting with his cheek before he realized she’d moved. The force behind the slap startled him.

“What the fuck are you doing here? And how in hell did you get into this room?” she asked in a controlled, demanding growl.

“I’m meeting someone here and planning on telling them to fuck off. For you. But I can’t see telling a woman who actually wants me to fuck off for one who doesn’t,” he countered.

Instantly, her expression changed and she didn’t seem so controlled anymore.

“Let me see it.” She held out her hand.

“See what?”

“Don’t play games with me. You’re not that fucking good at it. If you really belong here, hand it to me.” She shook her outstretched hand.

He suddenly understood what she meant. He took out the broken half of a mitzvah he’d sent the woman he’d be meeting. On Monday, he’d had it made, broken, and sent half to the service to give to his date as a token of his sincerity. The small plate was meant to be a signal to her signifying she’d been his intended and a romantic gesture to demonstrate his commitment. After his tryst with Tasha on Tuesday, he’d forgotten all about it. He watched in astonishment when she dug into her jacket pocket and took out a small silver plate engraved in Hebrew with a verse from Song of Solomon. I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine.

When she pieced the two halves together, her hands shook, and he couldn’t help but shiver, too. He reeled at the implications of this meeting. How could this happen? Of all the women in the world who would respond to the demands of his one-night stand, how the hell did he draw her? He didn’t care anymore. Nothing in the cosmos could separate them. There were things she had to agree to in order to meet him here. Understanding her the way he did, he found it hard to believe she’d do some of the things he’d necessitated easily.

“There are stipulations in our arrangement which aren’t negotiable. Are you prepared to accept them? All of them?” he asked.

Tasha closed her hand around the delicate silver plates and slipped them into her jacket pocket then met his gaze. She stepped closer to him. He had to stop himself from taking a step away from her when her eyes narrowed. He’d seen her dangerous expression just before she went in for the kill on a deal. How many times had her tigress expression turn him on? She grabbed his throat and clamped down. The firm grip took him by surprise. To his astonishment, a tremor of excitement ran through him when she clenched harder. Maliciousness crept over her and her lips thinned, sending a tingle down his spine.

“You forget who you’re talking to. I’m the one you send out to do the dirty work for your company, remember? Everything is negotiable, and you’ll learn what I will or will not accept. If you don’t, be prepared to suffer the consequences…pet.

“We are flirting with Heaven, on the brink of paradise.  I intend to put an end to our hell.”

When Dr. Zane Foster shares those words, he is holding all four of the men he loves in his arms. Adam, Rock Hard’s front man, has spent the last two weeks in Zane’s bedroom, recovering from his breakdown at the press conference. He has put the doctor in temporary control of his family. All of them have been calling Zane daddy for weeks.
When Adam decides he wants Zane to make decisions for the band on a permanent basis, the front man struggles with pride. Adam feels his inability to create harmony is the reason Deuce, L.T., and Jamie are pulling away. Jamie is intersex, and discovers he is pregnant. Will the unusual revelation of how the pregnancy occurred, and the discovery of the other biological father, bring Rock Hard closer together, or threaten to divide them permanently?

2 Excerpts!
Story:
Zane handed one of the jewelry boxes to Adam. When the front man opened the lid, his eyes glassed with tears.
“Just what I asked for,” Adam said.
“Then, you do want our arrangement to be a more permanent one?”
“Are you asking me if I want you to be our daddy always?”
“I only agreed for a little while, you know.”
“Not if that’s what I want,” Adam countered, “because, Zane, it is.”
Zane’s hand was now smoothing the dirty blond, shoulder-length hair away from Adam’s face. When the front man closed his eyes, leaning into Zane’s touch, the doctor caressed his partner’s cheek with the back of his hand.
“Are you sure, Adam? That is an important step for all of us. Up until now, you have been in complete control.”
Really?” Adam asked sarcastically. “Do you believe that, Zane? I don’t. I haven’t been in control in a long time.”
Now, Adam stood and walked to the window. Zane followed, putting his arms around his partner’s waist.
“I’m so jealous,” Adam said.
“Of what?” Zane asked, kissing the top of Adam’s hair.
“Of you.”
Adam turned to face him. More tears were forming in his partner’s eyes. When they spilled onto his cheeks, the doctor used his fingertips to wipe them away.
“I’ve never completely dealt with my jealousy toward you,” Adam spoke again.
“Adam, I am only in control right now because it is what you wanted. I do not want the responsibility if you are not comfortable with the dynamic. My dominance with you is not about me wanting to take control. What we share is about you giving me the opportunity to be what you need.”
“Then, I need you to be in control, but it doesn’t mean I don’t regret not having strength of my own. I want my partners to look at me like they do you. I want you to look at me like that. I—”
“Then maybe we still need to explore this before we go any further,” Zane interrupted.
“Further, as in?”
“Further as in, our new beginning. Adam, your partners love you. They do look at you like you desire, but are you able to open your heart to accept it?”
“I can’t stay in your bedroom alone anymore, can I?”
The look of hurt on Adam’s face broke Zane’s heart. He took his lover into his arms, holding him close.
“I am afraid not, sweetheart.”
“Deuce and I reconciled today, like you asked.”
“Like I asked? Adam, I would not suggest you let David hear that. I want you two to reconcile because it is what both of you desire. He loves you very much, and is trying hard to recover. David does not need a partner who cannot make up his mind whether he forgives him or not. That may sound blunt, but it is truth. All of us make mistakes, even you, Adam Foster.”
Adam’s expression prompted Zane’s next comment.
“No, I have not forgotten my desire for the four of you to take my name.”
“That’s contradictory to everything we’ve discussed.”
“Maybe,” Zane countered. “I asked you to come to my room tonight to discuss the design of the rings.”
“We’ve discussed them.”
“All I asked, Adam, was for you to be sure. Because once I give each of you those rings tonight, there will not be any going back and forth. I am a kind and gentle man, but I am also one who does not play games. I want nothing more than to be a daddy to the four of you, but something as meaningful and symbolic as exchanging rings should be on a more permanent level. The design of the ring itself suggests the intended dynamic.”
“I want to move forward.”
“All right, Adam.”
“Can I ask what you have in mind?”
Zane said nothing in reply. Instead, he cupped both of Adam’s cheeks between his hands. He lowered his lips to capture the front man’s mouth in an intimate kiss. Adam moaned, sinking into his arms. Zane pulled Adam’s body close against his own.
“Always fit so perfectly,” Zane said between kisses.
“Like I’m melting into the curves and crevices of your body,” Adam replied.
“No lovemaking, Adam,” Zane spoke, “at least not tonight. I have promised Lemmuel my company.”
When Adam pulled back, searching Zane’s face, the doctor rubbed his thumb across his lover’s swollen lips.
“I have asked Lemmuel to marry me.”
Zane closely watched Adam’s expression, as his partner pulled away from his grasp. Adam had turned once more to face the window.
“I want to marry all of you legally,” Adam said. “The law thinks otherwise. L.T. always desired that with me, and I couldn’t give it to him. Now, another man can. What does Jamie think about all this? I hope you asked him first.”
“James wants me to marry Lemmuel. I’ve asked them both to move into my bedroom.”
“I see,” Adam replied.
“Adam, part of my discussion tonight is we need to stop living in the past.”
“What exactly does my future hold, Zane?”
“Not bitterness, for one thing.”
“Then what?”
“What I’ve seen slowly happening between the five of us for the last two weeks. What I want more than anything else. I see it in your eyes now, sweetheart.”
“I have regrets.”
“All of us do. Please, don’t let your pride and bitterness get in the way of your family’s happiness.
“The fax machine is printing,” Adam said.
Zane turned his attention to the corner office in his room. He walked to the machine and retrieved the documents.
“Let us go find the rest of our partners,” Zane replied. “We can discuss the results tonight as well.”

Adult:
Adam smiled when Jamie’s eyes made contact with Zane’s stare. The doctor was lying next to Jamie on the bed. Zane had secured their young partner’s hands over his head. From where Adam knelt, he had a view of their fingers stretching Jamie’s anal opening. Zane’s face was near Jamie’s ear.  Even though Adam couldn’t hear the private words the doctor shared, he knew they were erotic. With his other hand, Adam reached down and caressed the back of L.T.’s head, as his drummer continued to suck Jamie’s dick.
“Kiss me, baby,” Deuce said.
Adam’s face was turned so their lips met. Deuce’s touch was passionate. Adam moaned when his lover parted his mouth with his tongue.
“Holy shit, Deuce,” Adam spoke between the lingual caresses.
Adam’s body was on fire. His cock was harder than it had been since before Deuce’s alcohol addiction. From their lovemaking the previous night, something had changed between them. Deuce was making those silent promises a reality. There was sincerity in Deuce’s touch.
“Are you ready, James?” Zane asked.
Jamie’s eyes met Adam’s face.
“Do not look at Adam,” Zane continued talking. “I want you to stare at me, in my eyes, and tell me you want David and Adam to penetrate your tight ass. Tell me, James.”
“I want Deuce and Adam to penetrate me, Daddy,” Jamie replied.
“Good boy. If it becomes too intense, or painful they will stop. I am in control. Do you trust me?”
Jamie nodded, while he continued to meet the doctor’s stare.
“Adam,” Zane said, “slide your dick inside.”
“Baby, you heard the doctor,” Deuce spoke.
Adam spread Jamie’s thighs as far as they would go.  He bent his lover’s legs against his chest. L.T. stopped sucking Jamie’s cock, joining Zane in caressing their young partner’s upper body. Adam lined his cockhead against Jamie’s entry. He pressed forward. His dick slipped passed the rim with a tight pop.
“Adam!” Jamie moaned.
“So tight, little bitch,” Adam replied.
“James, once I am sure you are all right, Lemmuel and I are going to put both of our dicks inside your mouth. Four men will be penetrating you in every hole.”
Adam smiled. All Jamie could do was whimper. He bent forward. His cock continued to press within the tight walls of his lover’s anal cavity. Slowly he bottomed out. Deuce was pumping his fingers, and Adam felt their continual caress against his shaft.
“I love you, Jamie,” Adam said, placing his full weight on his partner’s body.
Jamie wound his arms around Adam’s neck, but was still making eye contact with Zane. The brush of Zane’s skin against Adam’s body, while the doctor lay next to them on the bed, also caused Adam to groan in pleasure.
“David,” Zane said, “be gentle.”
Adam was beyond aroused. He had reached a point where nothing else mattered except finding release for him and the four men he loved. Zane was right, their commitment and the intimacy they shared during lovemaking was reaching somewhere Adam never wanted to leave. All of them were together, working toward uniting their hearts into something the front man believed would keep them together in harmony forever, or at least for the moment he carried that hope.
“Fuck he’s tight, Adam!” Deuce said.
“Holy shit, Deuce!” Adam spoke. “I can feel you stretching him, and rubbing me at the same time!”
“Enjoy the sensation,” Zane said, “because when I feel James is ready, Lemmuel and I are going to share it, too.”
“It hurts!” Jamie whimpered.
“Shh…James. Look into my eyes,” Zane said. “Guys, pull out a little bit. Stop thrusting. Lemmuel, come here and take my place. Look into James’s eyes and tell him you love him and promise it is going to feel good.”
Holy shit! Fuck! Adam’s thoughts were racing. His dick was throbbing, aching to release inside of Jamie’s body. Instead, he tried to focus on L.T.’s tenderness with the bass player. Zane had rolled away from them, reaching into his nightstand, retrieving an empty syringe. He opened the package, filled it with lube, and then tossed it to Deuce.
“My version of a lube shooter,” Zane said. “Get this inside of James.”
“I love you, candy cane,” L.T. said. “Doll baby, don’t you know all of us here are your tops and care about your pleasure. Now focus, beautiful. Those big beautiful eyes are looking up at me, wanting release.”
“Feels better,” Jamie said.
“I would image so…all that lube inside you,” L.T. replied.
Adam had begun to thrust again, next to Deuce. The two of them had their full weight on Jamie’s chest. Their lover was cuddled against them, as they wrapped their arms around not only each other, but the man who had accepted both of their dicks into his body.

 My Commander Excerpt

Gavriel followed behind Aiden as they walked into the store. He wanted to pick up the chocolate for Beth and he was dying to see what advice the old man had for Aiden. Walking behind his commander they approached the register where the aged man sat flipping through an old Bass and Guns magazine. The older man’s face brightened when he saw Aiden approaching.
“Well look what the cat dragged in. Been awhile, son. Surely you don’t need more feminine products, considering how much you bought last time you was here.”
“Sir, I…” Aiden began. The old man held up a wrinkled hand.
“My name is Bartholomew son, you can call me Bart. I have a feeling I’ll be seeing a lot of you, we might as well be on first name basis.”
Aiden thrust his hand out giving the old man hand a thorough shake.
“My name is Aiden McKenzie, this is my… friend Gavriel Ambrosios.” Aiden pointed in his direction. Gavriel nodded.
Bart nodded back and turned to Aiden. “Okay son, what’s yer question?”
“What do you buy a woman to get back on her good side when you’ve made her really, really angry? Cake? Fudge?”
The wrinkles on the old man’s face scrunched together as he frowned.
“How angry did you make her boy?”
“She set my car on fire.”
The old man blinked and then began to laugh. He laughed so hard that he began to hack and wheeze. Gavriel thought for sure that Aiden had killed the gentleman. Holding his stomach the man continued to laugh as he reached for a pen and piece of paper. With a shaky hand he scrawled something on the paper and thrust it at Aiden. He exhaled and wiped his eyes still chuckling to himself.
Aiden looked at the paper. “Is this a place that sells good chocolate?” he asked.
“No son. That is the address where they sell jewelry. Chocolate can fix a lot of things, but it’s not the embodiment of kitten angel tears if you know what I mean. If yer woman set your car on fire, then son, the only thing that can help you at this point is something shiny.” The old man rubbed his rounded belly and began to chuckle again at Aiden’s chagrin.
“Come on sir, I know that place he is recommending, they do sell nice pieces there. How about you go wait in the car while I buy these candy bars.” Gavriel sympathetically pat Aiden on the back before the commander trudged back to the car. Gavriel turned to face the old man.
The old man watched Aiden leave, scratching his stubbled chin. “His woman really that feisty?”
“You have no idea.”
“What a lucky bastard.”
Gavriel shook his head. “Mine’s feistier.”
The old man shook his head and rang up the candy bars.
“I have a feeling I’ll be seeing more of you boys.”
Gavriel picked up the bag. “You’re probably right.”
Whistling he walked out of the store to meet up with Aiden.

“I’m asking you to surrender to five days of passion. To discover physical delights you’ve never known and will never know again.”
I stared at the doctor, at the photos, then back again.
He pointed to the page. “I want to watch those two men ravish you under my direction.”
It had to be a joke or one of those “gotcha” reality TV shows. He couldn’t possibly be serious. “I’m not a prostitute!” I stood, readying to leave.
“Of course you’re not.” He stood and grabbed my hand. “I didn’t mean to imply that you are. You’ll notice I’ve made you no promises. There isn’t a promotion or prize for doing this. I’m simply hoping you’ll choose to indulge me. There is something about you, Elaine. I would work to seduce you, if I was capable of it, but this is what I have to offer.”
I pulled my hand out of his. “This is crazy! You want me to sleep with these men so you can get off watching.”
“No. I want to tell these men how to touch your body so that I can bring you pleasure. It will be me making love to you. I chose them to make the experience as stimulating as possible. Understand, in all of this, it’s me who is in charge; it’s me you’ll be intimate with. Those two men will be an extra set of lips, an additional tongue, another cock at my disposal to make you writhe.”
His words did things to me—a strange, hot seduction.
“Why two men?”
“Ever make love to two men at once?”

Blurb:
It might look weird for a musician to *fangirl* another musician, but Ed Finley didn’t give a damn. He adored and had a crush on singer and pianist, Gavin O’Malley—to the point of sticking O’Malley’s pin-ups all over the walls of his room. Ed thought his dream had come true when he was scheduled to perform together with his idol on stage.
Gavin O’Malley thought Ed was okay when they ended up being together that night. The night meant everything to Ed, while it was only another one-night stand for Gavin.
Ed decides to stay away while Gavin, after rejecting Ed, couldn’t stop thinking about the other man. Will Gavin get a chance to tell Ed his true feelings?
Excerpt:
As soon as he got to L.A., Ed realized the mistake he’d made. Everything reminded him of Gavin, especially the invites to small jam sessions and dinners with fellow artists. He’d tried to avoid them all, but Nina, his assistant, kept reminding him not to miss those occasions.
“Don’t you see that I’m a human being, too? I’m tired, okay?”
Instead of answering, Nina squinted at him before she thrust an envelope at him.
“What’s that?” Suspicion crept into his heart.
“A live awards ceremony. Music awards. Next week.”
“Oh.” He took the invitation and looked at the card. It was a national show and it was going to be aired live on a major channel. It was a big deal. He glanced back at Nina. “Am I a nominee or something?” That was impossible. He’d have found out right away if he was nominated in a category. “Or am I going to present an award? How did you get this invitation?” Nina knew very well this wasn’t his type of thing.
She chuckled softly. The traitor.
“Relax. I didn’t have to kiss someone’s ass or get down on my knees for this. You’re an online phenomenon, Ed. They knew they’d get more publicity if they had you at their show.”
Ed wasn’t particularly afraid of what Nina would do if she wanted something, though he did worry about her sometimes. She’d do anything to get the things she wanted. But this was going to be a huge event with hundreds of celebrities. It was harmless. Safe. Even if Ed saw him there, he could easily slip away and hide. He sighed.
“All right. I’ll go.”
“Yay. I’ll RSVP.”
Ed rolled his eyes as he turned his back on a delighted Nina, who was already on the phone.
The invitation ruined the plan he’d made. Without Nina’s knowledge, he’d made a reservation to rent a cabin on a vineyard resort he often went to in Northern California. He needed fresh air and a place to clear his head. He’d thought being in L.A. would help, but the feeling that he could run into Gavin in any corner of the city kept haunting him. The shame—Ed could not get rid of it. He was lucky Gavin hadn’t talked to a tabloid about how Ed Finley literally threw himself at him and thought he had a chance to be Gavin O’Malley’s boyfriend.
A week or so on the vineyard would do him good. Too bad Ed had to postpone it now. He took a shuddering breath and cooked up another plan. The minute he left the award show, he would be on his way to escape to Moonshine Valley.

Nina walked ahead of Ed on the red carpet. He smiled inwardly at the sight of her—a diminutive figure, yet looking confident and ready to take any action Ed needed her to. Tonight she was lit up in her small, bright red dress with her golden hair tied up into a small chignon. She was pretty, Ed would give her that. He wouldn’t mind having her as his girlfriend if he liked girls. As it was, Ed didn’t mind taking her as his date tonight, though she might have minded if he’d insisted on going in his shirt and jeans.
“Ed!”
Ed jerked his head up. “Yeah?” He had been unaware of zoning out for a second there.
Nina gestured at him impatiently, so he headed toward her. She was standing near the velvet railing with a man on the other side of it who had a microphone in his hand.
“Hi,” greeted Ed. “How’re you doing?”
“Can you believe it? Louis Montague from the blog Louis’ Notes, himself! He wants to talk to you, Ed.” Nina sounded too chirpy for his liking, and his eyes narrowed in suspicion because the girl knew him well. He turned back to the man and offered his hand. Louis accepted and shook it hard.
“Ed Finley. It’s so great to finally see you.”
“Hi, Louis. Glad to see you too. I hope you like my songs.”
“Like your songs? I love them. They’re brilliant, man.”
“Come on.” Ed felt positively embarrassed. After all this time, he still couldn’t believe people actually listened to his work. He looked around and cursed silently when he found that Nina had disappeared.
“I’m serious. They’re emotional and fans really relate to them. I can’t stop listening to them. What’s coming up next from you?”
“Um.” Ed scratched his head, then promptly removed his wandering fingers. He’d spent more time than was necessary trying to tame his red curls, and he knew Nina would scold him for ruining them. “I write songs every night or between shows. I can’t stop the ideas from coming into my head. They keep bugging me until I write them down.”
“Sounds so easy for you.”
“Oh no, not at all. They’re raw ideas and thoughts. Mostly I still have to find the right tune for them, not to mention the lyrics and the music arrangements. Half of the raw ideas I have had have ended up in the garbage bin. Only half became full songs and just one or two of them get to be produced.” Ed thought he heard Louis mutter something. “Excuse me?”
Louis shook his head. “Nah. Just—if I tried to write songs, they would all get dumped.”
Ed snickered. “You don’t know that. You should try writing someday if you get an interesting idea.”
“I’d rather listen to yours, thanks.” Louis smiled widely. “So are you going to present an award tonight?”
“No. I’ll just sit tight and sweet in the audience. My pretty Nina did a good job finding me a place in there. She—” Ed waved sideways and stopped short. He gaped and his breathing became erratic. He hadn’t expected anyone to be standing next to him, to be so close to him, like…like…
“Hi, Ed.”
Like Gavin.
