The Last Surprise: a Soul's Desire novel

The Last Surprise
Soul's Desire Book 3

BLURB

When faced with the irrefutable proof she’d been waiting for, Ellie Benton had to make the most important decision of her life—leaving.

Ellie chose to start over in Paris, leaving her broken heart behind with her childhood friend and the only man she’d ever loved—Tyler Stuart. But even with the huge distance separating them, Ellie couldn’t escape him in her dreams. When Tyler walked back into her life and proved to her that everything she “thought” she knew was a lie, Ellie couldn’t resist the strong pull that had always existed between them.

Just when it seemed they had it all—friendship, love, and most importantly, each other—challenges neither of them had anticipated threw them into a battle for their own survival.

✯✰ EXCERPT ✰✯✰

I barely had time to turn and see Tyler was walking up behind me before his arms snaked around my waist. His hot breath blew down my neck, and I shivered as his chest pressed against my back.

“I see you’re all done in here.” He kissed me on my cheek, his mouth warm against my still cold face. “Mmm, you’ve been outside...without me.” His lips were soft and tender as they brushed along my jaw line. I relaxed into him and enjoyed every bit of affection he manifested toward me. Since he’d been back all of my pain and burdens seemed much lighter. I knew right then I could withstand anything the future held for me as long as he was by my side.

“You were asleep.” I managed, distracted by the bulge pressing into my lower back. “And I needed some air.”

“You think too much, El...” he replied as one of his hands slipped down to the outside of my thigh. “Let me help you relax a little. What do you say?” Sliding his hand back to my waist again, he guided me to turn around to face him.

I nodded, keeping my eyes on him. As I looked into his deep pools of green, everything else seemed to fade into insignificance around us. They were beautiful and they trapped me there. “What’s this?” I asked tenderly when I eventually found my voice, as I lightly traced my fingers up and down the length of his arousal. I loved how his expression darkened whenever I touched him there, his hunger coming through clearly.

He raised his hand and moved it slowly up my back before tangling his fingers in my hair. His other arm wound tighter around me and pulled me closer until there was no gap between us. “Oh, I think you very well know what that is, kitty.”

Him using the pet name he’d chosen for me when we were kids made me swoon. It always brought back the happy memories of our childhood together. Whether he realized it or not, just hearing it made me feel that much closer to him and sparked my need for intimacy.

I had no idea for how long we stayed like that before he started to inch his mouth closer to mine. All I knew was that however long it was, it wasn’t long enough. I wanted to live in that moment forever—just me and him—with nothing and no one to hinder those precious moments we shared.

Holding my breath in anticipation of feeling that sensual contact, I planted my hand on his cheek, closing the distance between us, and then—I was lost.
Tyler’s mouth ground against mine and my palms began to sweat as the temperature in the room started to climb. When he parted his lips, his hot tongue poked out to trace my bottom lip before it slipped into my mouth to tangle with mine in a searing, tantalizing kiss that left me hungry for more. In that moment we could have been anywhere—outside in the freezing cold, in the middle of a stampede of wild animals or a crowded interstate at rush hour—I didn’t care. So long as he kept kissing me.

A needy whimper left my lips when he broke the kiss a couple of minutes later, and I tilted my head back to capture his eyes. He was smiling that mischievous smile again as he looked down at me, and I instantly knew he was up to something.

“Enough now,” he said, taking a step back, though his voice was husky and thick with lust.

My sultry, heavy-lidded eyes bugged out in response to his actions and words. “What?”

“I think I’m going to save my energy for tomorrow night.” His grin turned up a notch.

“Tomorrow night? What are you talking about?” I shifted from foot to foot, needing to appease the storm that had started deep within my core.

“You’ll have to wait and see.” He laughed, watching me amused.

“Oh, great job, buddy! Turn me on and then leave me like this.” I pouted. “I thought you were going to help me relax?”

“Hmm...maybe a bubble bath with help?” He suggested playfully.

I blinked a couple of times and nodded in agreement, even though every nerve in my body was screaming for the opposite. I wanted him to put that fire out, not a damn bath, but I wasn’t going to let him know that. “Your loss,” I said as I sashayed toward the bathroom.

Tyler was hot on my trail, so I swiveled around, hands on my hips. “May I join you?” He chuckled under his breath.

“Nice try, Ty. Get out!” I laughed, shutting the door in his face.

“I love you!” he called through the closed door, and I melted against it, my smile so big it made my cheeks hurt.

Some loves are Unforgettable

Unforgettable Hearts
The Souls Desire series, #2
by Emily A. Lawrence

*****Blurb*****
Continuing the Soul’s Desire Series with book 2 Unforgettable Hearts
Ellie Benton lost all contact with her childhood friend, Tyler Stuart, when she moved with her family to New York. For seven years she’d mourned the loss of the copper-haired boy whom she’d secretly admired her entire life. Saddened by the thought that he’d forgotten her, Ellie carried on with her life, but nothing could fill the void he’d left in her heart.

When an unexpected trip reunited them after such a long time, Ellie found herself unable to resist the strong pull she felt toward him, nor control the feelings she’d fought so hard to keep at bay.

Tyler’s initial coldness at the sight of her made her question if he’d ever cared about her, but soon she discovered things she’d never even dared dream of, secrets that turned her soul inside out and brought her more joy than she’d ever experienced. Tyler proved to be the man of her dreams, exactly how she’d imagined him. But, as they embarked on a passionate relationship—just when she thought she’d finally found her happiness—demons from their past and present threatened to separate them.

Will their love overcome all the obstacles they have to face?

*****Excerpt*****

I saw Tyler’s fingers tighten around the glass, squeezing it so hard I feared it might shatter in his hand. It only took seconds. First there was a crack, then his eyes became slits, and before I could react, the crystal glass broke, slicing his palm open.
“Tyler!” Caitlyn jumped, a look of horror on her face.

“Dammit!” Tyler growled and grabbed a towel, pressing it against his bleeding wound. I felt my stomach lurch and my heart beat a hundred miles per hour.

“Son, what did you do? Let me see that!” Alfred was by his side, but Tyler got up from his seat and stormed out of the dining room, causing several heads to turn.

“I’ll go,” I said and rushed after him. “Tyler, wait up! Tyler!” I managed to catch up with him when he stopped to open his door.

“Go back, Ellie. I’m fine,” he said through gritted teeth.

“No, you’re not. You’re bleeding!” I followed him into the bathroom and watched him turn on the cold water, getting his blood all over the faucet.

He put his hand under the clear water and grunted when it poured over his wound. He rinsed off as quickly as he could, but it didn’t stop the bleeding.

“You might need some stitches—”

“No, it’s not that deep.”

I opened the medical cabinet on the wall. “At least let me put some alcohol on it. You don’t want it to get infected, do you?” After opening the bottle I grabbed his wrist to hold him in place and poured a bit on the bleeding wound.

Tyler growled, then mumbled all kinds of despicable things, half of which I couldn’t understand. He thrust his hand under the stream of water again and waited until it ran clean from his wound. The pain seemed to be subsiding since his body relaxed. He examined the wound closely. “It’s not as severe as I thought it was. It still burns, though.”

“Sit down and let me bandage you,” I said, taking what I needed from the cabinet.

He sat down on the edge of the tub, but stuck his hand behind his back when he saw me grab the bottle. “Oh, no. No more alcohol.”

“Don’t be such a baby. Come on. The faster I finish this, the sooner I’ll leave you alone.”
Saying those words hurt, but it was the painful truth. Whatever pain he was feeling, mine was multiplied by thousands of times at the thought that he didn’t want me around him.

His jaw clenched, and said nothing in return. I had half expected him to tell me I was mistaken, but he didn’t. Giving me his hand, he let me clean and bandage his wound. The proximity was killing me slowly, and it took all I had to keep from wrapping myself around him and settling into his arms. I ached to hear that he’d missed me and have the harrowing weight lifted off of my heart, but his lips remained sealed and not one word came out as I attended him. Saddened, I reflected deeply on our past relationship and how much it had meant to me, feeling the poignancy of everything we’d shared in good times and bad. I wondered if perhaps this was the beginning of the saddest time of all, as the pain I felt in all the years we’d been apart was nothing compared to the way I felt now. Holding my breath to avoid inhaling his masculine scent, I tried to swallow the raw pain scraping its way toward my mouth as a scream demanded its exit.

“There...you’ll be okay, but maybe you should let your dad have a look at it—”

“Stay away from that man,” he said and grabbed my wrist unexpectedly. My heart jumped into my throat, blocking my windpipe. My throat contracted around the emotions which threatened to leap up and out of my lips, my stomach tensed and my insides felt like they were tied into a knot.

“What?” I barely whispered, glaring at him perplexed.

“You heard me. Stay away from that Andrew whatever.” Tyler was dead serious, his voice dry as bones. Was that what had caused his anger? Him seeing me with the other man? There was a small flutter of hope in my tummy, but I wasn’t sure what to think anymore.

 The Guardian Of My Soul
Soul’s Desire Series
Book 1

“The Guardian Of My Soul” is the first book in the Soul’s Desire Series, and tells the story of Kristen and Alec, two people who struggle with one another, as well as with their own fears and insecurities.
Some have said “The Guardian of my Soul” is “The Bodyguard” meets “Taming of the Shrew”, a compelling look at two people who find they have more in common than they ever dreamed.
Kristen Mancuso, daughter of a renowned fashion designer has everything her heart desires, and yet she’s still unhappy. After her father’s death, her mother’s overprotectiveness has prevented Kristen from choosing her own path in life, and she often feels as if she's a prisoner in her own home. Kristen thought her twenty-first birthday would magically bring her the freedom she craved. She was wrong. When her mother hires Alec Warner to be her personal bodyguard, Kristen rebels against it, unaware of the true reasons why he’s needed and the very real danger threatening her safety. Having someone shadow her every move is the last thing she wants. Alec is handsome, intimidating and determined to stand between Kristen and anyone who would harm her.
Kristen doesn’t know what to do with Alec. She’s drawn to him, and while he is committed to his job, he refuses to allow her to control him the way she does with other men. Their relationship is volatile and explosive, yet they discover they have more in common than they ever dreamed. Together they face demons from their past and secrets which could tear them apart.
Alec and Kristen fight their attraction for one another, but that’s one battle where losing may very well give them everything their souls desire…

Meet the two leading characters:

Excerpt:

The heady smell of male fragrance filled my senses and my heavy eyelids jerked open. In a corner of my moonlit room Alec sat quietly in an armchair. I jumped with a start the moment our eyes met, the throbbing in my chest almost suffocating me.
He stood up and walked toward me gracefully, visibly not affected that I’d caught him in my room staring at me in the middle of the night.
I looked at him speechless and grabbed the blanket, pulling it up to my neck. I clenched my fists around it to block his view of my eager body.
“What are you doing here?” My voice was soft and trembling.
He gazed at me, but didn’t answer. He climbed next to me in bed and I scooted to the far edge of it, but he was faster and lowered himself on top of me, trapping me beneath him. His eyes were glued to my mouth and I knew he was about to kiss me.
Strangely, I didn’t protest and when his lips brushed mine I gently parted them to allow his tongue to join the game. I loved the swirl of his tongue against mine and my arms wrapped around his neck, welcoming him.
The unfathomable physical attraction and the sexual tension floating in the air were enough to make me lose my head and allow him to do things I would have normally forbidden him to do.
A sob tore through my throat as he kissed me with searing passion, his hot body melting into mine and pressing me against the mattress. Threading his fingers through my long hair, he released my mouth and nibbled my earlobe, eliciting a soft moan from me. Next, he traced a line along the curve of my neck, leaving a trail of wet kisses all the way to my chest. With deft fingers he grabbed the soft fabric of my nightgown and pulled it down, exposing my breasts and hardened nipples. His hot breath fanned over them and his sexy groan sent a shock wave of pleasure racing through me, bursting out toward my fingers and toes. When his lips locked around one nipple I sobbed out loud with relief and impatience. He bit it gently in response, arousing me beyond my belief.
Alec’s hand reached beneath my nightgown and he groaned when he found no underwear to stop him. My legs spread of their own accord when he began touching me intimately, probing at my liquid center, expertly circling my most sensitive spot. I ground myself against his hand and next thing I knew he’d slipped down there, pushing my thighs wider still, his eyes feasting greedily on my smooth, creamy skin. Alec buried his face into me and licked feverishly until my legs wobbled. Reaching down, I passed my fingers through his hair, all the while biting my lips to muffle my cries of pure bliss.
Alec looked up at me and I was captured in his gaze. I watched him watching me as he sucked and nipped at me until I felt myself falling. The sensation became so intense I just had to close my eyes.

A Dream Come True
Weekend Getaways Series

Book 3
“A Dream come True” is the third book in my “Weekend Getaways Series” published by Secret Cravings Publishing, continuing the story of Carly and Robert. You can find the previous two (Hot Dreams of a Lonely Soul --- Hopeful Dreams and New Beginnings) at the following link:

Book blurb:

Hope lit up Carly’s heart as she could finally express her needs and wishes, no longer afraid to voice her thoughts. After putting aside her troubled past with her abusive ex husband, Carly began a new chapter in her life along with her new husband, Robert, the man who had brought her more joy than she had ever thought possible. After having the wedding of her dreams, Robert surprised her with a romantic honeymoon at a cabin in Alaska, just a few days before Christmas. But, in spite of all the happiness, the sight of the Christmas tree brought back sad memories that Robert fought to help her overcome. What more was left for her life to be complete? Could all of Carly’s dreams come true at Christmas?

Excerpt:

Carly woke up to soft kisses being pressed against her forehead and cheek. She glanced around the cottage for a moment through half-hooded eyes before she looked up to find Robert hovering over her. His eyes brimmed with affection, and his smile was full of caring. What better way to wake up? She couldn’t think of anything else at the moment.
“You fell asleep. Breakfast’s ready,” he said, and she hoisted herself to a sitting position on the couch to make room for him to sit down next to her. As she straightened her back and yawned, her gaze locked on the Christmas tree for a moment, but then dropped to the food on the coffee table. Her mouth watered at the sight of cheese scrambled eggs with onions, tomatoes and peppers.
Taking a mouthful and savoring the delicious taste of his food, Carly turned to him. “Our wedding picture in the bedroom…I didn’t see it last night.”
He grinned, moving his hand slowly up and down her back. “I wanted you to have a pleasant surprise when you woke up. Did it work?”
She nodded and offered him a sweet smile. “So, you hung the picture on the wall, cleaned up the bathroom, arranged our clothes in the walk-in closet, went out to get a Christmas tree…did you at least sleep with me last night?”
His burning eyes strayed from the food to her and the look on his face darkened with lust. “Hell yeah, I did!” he replied in a mischievous tone, stroking her thigh all the way from the knee to her hip.
Carly couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her with his answer. “Crazy!” She tousled his hair playfully. “You know that’s not what I meant.”
“I slept, but woke up early. You were so tired you didn’t even move all night.” He kissed her hair before he resumed eating. “Will you help me decorate the tree?”
Carly hesitated for a moment, but then gave him a light nod. “I missed the smell of fir…so much.” She looked around. The fire roared in the fireplace, the tree waited to be decorated, a mug of hot chocolate rested on the coffee table, and she sat comfortably on the couch with the man she loved, her husband. “This is just…perfect.”
“I never want to see you sad again,” Robert said, distracting her from her thoughts.
Carly put the fork down and settled on his lap, her arms circling his neck. He smiled and fed her himself, eating together until there was nothing left on either plate. “You really enjoy pampering me, don’t you?” she asked him, getting up and approaching the tree with her mug.
“It’s my new favorite hobby,” he replied, causing her to shake her head, giggling.
An hour later they both sat and admired their tree. Carly beat back the tears burning the back of her eyelids. Leaning into his chest, he circled her waist with his arm. “Our first Christmas together. Our first tree. How did I get so lucky all of a sudden?” She looked up at him, placing her palms on his bulged pecs.
Without a warning, Robert leaned over and captured her mouth in a searing kiss. Their lips melded with a perfect harmony of give and take. Carly felt his fingers tracing idle patterns down her back as they kissed. He gently suckled her tongue into his mouth and rubbed it with his own in a tender caress. Then he nibbled at her lower lip and soothed the minor sting with his tongue.
