She was so beautiful up close, her skin smooth and her eyes full of mystery and intrigue. Her cheekbones were high, her lips red and full. She could have been a Hollywood star, had I not stolen her away from all of it. But instead, here she was, the face of my multi-billion dollar business. That face, just inches from mine.
She leaned in, and I knew what was coming, but I was powerless to stop it. Her soft lips pressed against mine, and I kissed her back as if I had been in a desert and she was water.
Passion tingled through my body as my hands went to trace her small curves. She was perfect under my big hands, firm and yet supple in all the right places.
I put my hand up to her face, tilting her head ever so slightly and she half moaned, her body melting into mine.
I don't know how long we made out, but it was long enough for the entire ride to go by without us knowing. Before I knew it, the car had stopped.
Even though I knew the windows were tinted and no one could see inside, it took all my willpower to pull apart from her.
"We're here," I said.
"So we are," she replied, a bit breathless. "Should we go inside?" she reached to take my hand, to lead me as she had been leading me all day. But I grabbed her hand instead.
"Don't worry, John," she said, softly. "I know this is a big deal, what we're starting. I won't tell anyone until we're sure. But just so you know, I've been sure since I first saw you. And it won't change any time soon."
She laid one last kiss on my cheek and then let herself out of the limo.
"Goodnight, John."
"Goodnight, Gwen," I called after her, deciding to sit for a few minutes before I went inside. Everyone had known we were out together, that bit wasn't a secret. But I wasn't keen to let the world know the effect that this girl had on my body, or my face.
I wasn't keen to let them know I was falling in love and in lust with her, all at the same time.

Perfect Sense: a Sports Romance New Adult novel

Perfect Sense
Perfect Series, Book One
by Amanda Cowen
a New Adult Contemporary Sports Romance
Book Description:

He’s gorgeous.

He’s reckless.

And he’s every woman’s dirty fantasy in the state of California.., except one… Quinn Ashby.

Recent graduate of Penn and top of her class, Quinn is whip smart, ambitious and interning as the new marketing coordinator for the Bexley Bruisers American Hockey League team. The last thing she needs is to waste her time on guys…especially one as lethal to her focus as Cash Brooks.

But once the bad boy hockey star tempts her into his world, threatening her professional future, she’s forced to decide whether to let him into her heart…or to leave him behind forever.

I round the corner into the secluded hall leading to the washrooms, and my heart stops. Cash on the ice, sweaty and dressed in hockey equipment, was sexy, but the Cash sitting feet away, wearing an expensive modern-fit, pastel brown suit, is insanely hot. I eye the two women perched on either side of him on the red velvet chaise. To his right, a long-haired blonde with extensions rests a possessive hand on his chest. To his left, a woman with jet black hair toys with her side ponytail while running the fingers of her other hand through his wavy honey-colored hair.

His piercing blue gaze snaps to mine, and he tilts his head to the side, studying me. A cocky grin curves his full lips. I move forward, unable to breathe as his stare slides down my peplum dress, stopping once at my breasts and once at my hips. His eyes lock with mine and I fiddle with the gold-toned slider bracelet around my wrist.  He pushes up from the chaise, abandoning the two women feeling him up in the corner. I turn away, and as my palm slams against the door of the ladies room, a big, warm hand closes around my wrist.

Cash spins me around and I press back against the wall beside the door. He cages me, his palms flat on either side of my head. He leans toward me, his mouth inches from my face, so close I can the warmth of his breath tickling my cheek. He smells ridiculously good, like honey and cinnamon.

“Mittens,” he whispers, his mouth dangerously close to my lips. “I didn’t peg you as the stalking type, especially since you took off after I scored that hard-earned goal for you.”

What an arrogant bastard!

I arch an eyebrow at him. “Excuse me? Do I know you?”

His eyes flicker, and his lips curl in amusement. “Come on, Quinn. I don’t ever forget a pretty face. I’m willing to bet you don’t forget one either.”

My heart pounds as I glare into his sharp baby blues. His sexy athletic build towers over me. He makes me feel even more petite than usual. I try to ignore the rise and fall on his muscular chest, but despite myself my nipples harden.

Even though my body is betraying me, I refuse to act like every other puck bunny, falling at his feet. “You’re really full of yourself, aren’t you?” I say. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to use the ladies room.”

He chuckles, “How about you stop playing games with me and admit you came here looking for me.”

I shoot him a disgusted look. “I’m not here for you.”

Cash smiles at me with what I am guessing to be one of his most charmingly rehearsed expressions. He cocks his head to the side then bites his bottom lip like he is thinking about something. “Alright, since you want to play it that way…” He leans in close enough that I feel his stubble brush against my cheek. “Can I buy you a drink?”

An unwelcome shiver of awareness shoots up my spine. “Listen, asshole. I am Hilton Ashby’s daughter and the newest employee in the Marketing and Promotions Department for the Bruisers. So if you wouldn’t mind stepping aside so I can freshen up, I would really appreciate it.”

Cash’s dimples deepen, and a dangerous grin pulls at the corners of his lips. “Perfect, now I know where I can find you.”

I feel myself weaken for a brief second at his smile, until I remind myself this guy is nothing but trouble. Wrapping my fingers tightly around his tie, I yank him against my chest, and whisper in his ear, “Stay away from me, Brooks. I don’t do arrogant dickheads.”

Cash looks straight into my eyes, his grin still in place. He runs a callused fingertip along my collarbone. “I’m not going anywhere.” He leans down, his lips close to mine.  “I promise you, this is just the beginning.”

book blurb
As a young woman, Abby Carmichael had it all—until the night a stranger tore it away…A year and half after the brutal sexual assault, Abby is finally starting to feel like her old self. Teaching dance classes with enthusiastic kids is just the kind of job she needs—far away from probing eyes or vicious intentions of the opposite sex. When she connects with one of her students, Natalie, it isn’t long until she meets her father, Deputy Ben James.

Ben James is just a regular guy, working to make a life for himself and his daughter…

That’s what Abby tells herself when her sudden attraction for Ben catches her off guard. Abby has been steering clear of men for obvious reasons, and the idea of wanting that kind of relationship is more terrifying than intriguing. But with his doe-eyed daughter tugging at her dance uniform, Ben takes notice.

He’s ready for love, but does her past hold too many secrets?

After the assault, Abby coped by using heavy medication and fell into an ugly chain of one-night stands. But now that she’s out of rehab and finally on the right track, it’s only a matter of time before Ben finds out.

Will Abby be the true love Ben has always wanted? Or is she a tangled challenge, leading to yet another… Broken Love?

Chapter One

I stare at the stream of smoke that floats up from the joint burning in my ashtray. The smell is sweet and comforting as I pop another Xanax into my mouth. I need to hurry. I’ve already taken five and I don’t want to pass out before I can finish what I started and end this pain. I need to do this. I need to stop hurting and feeling dirty. I’m tired of watching my parents hurting because they don’t know how to help me. I’m tired of my brothers and sister avoiding me because they don’t know how to deal with what I’ve become. My best friend and cousin, Carrington, watches me constantly with a guilty stare. It’s not her fault I was followed back to our apartment after I went home sick from work and she was gone on a date.

I can’t stand being touched anymore, especially by my family. I’m so dirty now and I don’t want any of that to rub off on them. I can’t remember the last time I let my dad , Dylan, or my real dad, Cash, hug me. I used to love hugs from Gramps, but now the thought of his hands on me makes me want to vomit. My entire family changed after I was raped six months ago. After it happened, I moved back into my parents’ home.

My parents and I fight every day. I’ve become erratic and foolish. Going home with men I don’t know and letting them use my body. I feel like I have control when I let them fuck me. Then I come home to scrub the feel of them off my skin and force myself to vomit over and over and over. My parents have tried punishing me, reasoning with me, but I’m twenty-one and they can’t make me do shit. They’ve tried therapy and all that got me was the constant supply of Xanax.

I take a hit of the joint and let the smoke travel down into my lungs and hold it there until I finally exhale it slowly. I put two more pills in my mouth and swallow them with a swig of the beer I grabbed out of my dad’s refrigerator in the garage. I’m starting to feel a little woozy. I stand on unsteady legs, staggering to my full-length mirror. I stare at my reflection and don’t recognize the person looking back at me. My golden blonde hair is dyed a mousy plain brown. It’s stringy and lifeless along with my complexion. I’ve always had a light tanned glow but now I’m sallow. My blue eyes are dull. I hate what I’ve become. I hate him for taking something that wasn’t his to take in the first place.

I scream, my fist flying through the air until I strike my mirror. I watch my reflection splinter as the mirror cracks. I hit it again and again until my arms feel too heavy to lift anymore. I collapse to the floor when someone starts pounding on my door.

“Abby, let me in right now!” my dad shouts. I ignore him as I begin to cry while crawling to my bed, grabbing two more Xanax. My head feels like it’s filled with marshmallows. I quickly swallow them. “Please, baby girl.” I hear him beg and I begin to cry harder. Dylan may not be my biological father, but that doesn’t matter. He’s been my daddy since I met him when I was five, then when he married my mom and adopted me. I hear more pounding and shouting as I lie on my back and stare at the ceiling.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper as I hear wood splintering and then more screaming and shouting. I whisper it over and over as I stare up into the tear-filled eyes of my daddy.

I think about when I was nine and he took me to my piano lessons and whenever he left me at the door to the room, he knelt in front of me and said, “I love you, baby girl. No matter what, I will always love you. Forever and ever.”

I felt myself being lifted. Fingers entered my mouth and I heard those soft words spoken directly into my ear. “I love you, baby girl. Forever and ever.” His words make me feel warm as everything finally ends.

Are you sure you’re ready to see what’s inside?

Two hearts beating…

S Club dancer and extrovert, Jay, has worked very hard for this eye-opening moment with his reluctant and shy friend, Kelley. Unfortunately, a humorous attempt to get her to open up serves to push her further away. Now it’s nearly impossible to convince her he’s not just out to play.
Hundreds of scars in need of hiding…

For good reason, Kelley has yet to let Jay see all of her whereas he takes his clothes off nightly for a living. Her respect for him runs unmatched because she sees who he is inside. There’s just no way to ever reciprocate and that’s not fair to him. His interest in her has never made sense. The best option is convincing Jay there really is nothing to see.

One dark night to shine some light on their healing…

Sometimes, it just takes one very patient man, one dimly lit room and one safe set of arms.

Chapter One

The middle of June, Boulder City, Nevada. Or you could also call it hell cuz it was so fricking hot.

Clothes are really overrated, ya know. Oh, sorry, I know this is just supposed to be that one line at the beginning of the book that tells you the time of year and setting. Let’s just get to my story. Yeah, so here we go. My name is Jay. I happen to be a stripper, which means you’re either blushing, giggling, checking your wallet for ones and imagining my giant smile—come on now, minds out of the gutter (insert that winky emoji girls are so good at)—or super curious about what I look like naked right about now. It’s okay. I totally get that last part. I’m curious about others in that way too.
You see, I’m just a guy who has no business being in love with this beautiful angel who has me turned upside down and inside out. She’s all kinds of innocent. At least she was. Before she met me. Hold on … I just need a second. Sorry. And now, well now she won’t even let me see her. Damn, I’m sorry. I’ve said way too much and this is a lot harder than I thought. I’m gonna do my best to piece this all together for you. Please bear with me. Can we just start this part again? Thank you. Sorry, I’m usually pretty funny but, I’m just not myself right now. I just want her to be okay. Ya know? If you’re heartbroken or hurting out there, reading this, I want you to be okay too. Let’s see if we can get through this together. So like I was saying, my name is Jay. I’m a stripper. And it’s really hot here …
