Passion Flames
The Demon Slayers Book 1
by Katherine Rhodes
a Paranormal Romance
from Beau Coup publishing

Available here:
 ***Blurb***

Belle Ptolemny, the youngest daughter of the Demon Slayer family, has been sent on a quest: to find what happened to the Book of Tahat Sheol. It is the one book that might help her family defeat a demon on the rise.

Raphale Astor is the lead
er of a clan of Others, who hide in the shadows of the world. He is the one man who may be able to help Belle find her book, and she is completely enamored with him instantly.

Now, if only he weren't a demon.

***Excerpt***

Raphale leaned in. “You look lost in your thoughts, my pretty one.”

“That’s easily done. I don’t have a very good internal GPS.”

He laughed, mightily. “Oh, but I like you.”

“What are you doing here?” Belle asked, turning the question around.

“I am here because I’m hoping all these stuffed shirts are going to open their wallets for my charity.”

Belle froze. “Oh. Oh, shit. Oh, God, and I cursed too!” Bemused, Raphale waited for her to continue. You’re John Raphale Astor.”

“At your service, as it were.”

“I had no idea.”

“You weren’t supposed to,” he said. “Hence this
ridiculous costume.”

“I’m so sorry. I’ve made an ass of myself. I’ll go.” She gathered her skirts and put a hand on the table to stand.

“Don’t.”

Raphale put his hand on hers to stop her from fleeing—

And the world exploded in colors and swirls as the Touch slammed all of the information she ever and never needed about John Raphale Astor into her head. But it wasn’t the Touch she was used to. This was the touch of a demon.

She tried to rip her hand away from his, but he held on. There was a horror in his eyes she knew was reflected in her own. She knew the Touch had told him she was a slayer. A young, inexperienced slayer with the power of a Hell’s Bane witch. His jaw worked for a moment, but finally he was able to chew out some words.

“Pretty one, I mean you no harm. Come. Please. Let us talk on the roof.”

“I...can’t...shouldn’t,” Belle stuttered, but stopped pulling away. She had seen behind his mask, both figuratively and literally, and she was still drawn to him. She knew she should run, fast and hard—but he was magnetic and worse, earnest. The desire she had felt earlier betrayed her. Instead of slaking off when she discovered his nature, it had shot through her and flamed her blood.

“Please, Belle,” he said. “This is not what you think. Come, let’s talk above.”

A moment and hard swallow later, trying to rein in her out-of-control desire for a forbidden man—demon—she nodded and allowed him to lead her away from the table. She desperately tried to follow the path they took to the roof so she could go back alone, but remembered there would be no need. Even with having her powers for three years, she often forgot about them and how powerful she really was.

The door pushed open and they walked out into the moonlight. It felt delicious on her skin in its nearly full phase and shone brightly off the not-so-distant Thames. She could see the London Eye on the other side of the river, the Shard, and St. Mary’s Axe to the left, as well as the cluster of buildings at Canary Wharf.

But as much as she wanted to really stand and admire the view, she had just found a demon.

Don't let her size fool you: Andromeda's Fall

Andromeda’s Fall
Shadowcat Nation, Book 1
by Abigail Owen
A Paranormal Shifter Romance
from The Wild Rose Press

Book Description:
Andromeda Reynolds is being hunted. After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of a pack of wolf shifters, Andie has devoted her life to protecting her community of cougar shifters from a similar fate. But now, a greater threat lies within her own dare, and she must run. If she stays, Kyle Carstairs will force their mating, seeking the added political power their union would provide.

Andie would rather chew off her own foot than end up with Kyle. Though, knowing him, she won’t live long either way. Andie’s only hope of survival is to mate Jaxon Keller, the Alpha of the Keller Dare with which she is seeking asylum. But before she can get to him, Andie must first go through A.J., one of the Alpha’s Protectors.
What Andie doesn’t realize is that A.J. has secrets of his own. All Andie knows is that the incredibly frustrating shifter insists on challenging her story, her skills, her trust… and her heart.

Review by pearls

Look out, cats, there's a new shifter series in town.  While the Shadowcat Nation focuses on Cougar shifters, there are also wolves, bears, polar bears and I am sure more to come.  The first book in the series brings together two dares (cougar sanctuary/fortresses), as a member of a brutally ruled dare seeks asylum from the just leader of the Keller dare.  As she enters camp, she is immediately caught, but allowed to prove herself.  Love blooms and sexual tension rises as they fight for right to asylum from insiders and outsiders, including her old pack.  I love that Andromeda is drawn as a strong female character and even more so that AJ respects her as an equal. New alliances are drawn and battles are fought.  The romance is clean, but heated.  This book is a stand-alone, but sets up a cast of characters for many more books and adventures to come.

Excerpt:

He glanced down at her. “You really are a tiny thing, aren’t you?”

Andie scowled. “Don’t let my size fool you. I can pack a wallop when I want to. Even with a broken arm.”

A.J. laughed. “I’m sure you can.”

Andie stared straight ahead, her mouth thinning. She hated being patronized. Men were so dense sometimes. They never took her seriously until she showed them exactly why they should.

Keeping her left arm protected, Andie suddenly dropped. One leg shot out and she spun low to the ground, sweeping A.J.’s feet out from under him. As he landed on his back, she was on top of him, her knee on his windpipe—not crushing, just sending a message.

Before she could gloat too much, though, she was flying through the air. Andie tucked into a back flip, landed on her feet, and then spun and launched herself backwards in a one-handed back handspring. A.J. had just gotten on his feet when her legs wrapped around his neck. She used her momentum to drop him back to the floor.

Andie rolled and ended up in a crouch close by. A.J. held up his hands in surrender. “All right, wildcat. You’ve proved yourself.”

Andie glared at him. “Don’t doubt me. And don’t insult my intelligence by pretending you just lost either,” she said in a severe voice, made harsher, perhaps, by the fact that she’d just realized exactly how incredible his blue eyes were. They were a vibrant color made even more interesting by the black ring that rimmed the irises. And she was more than irritated with herself for having noticed that at all.

He levered himself up off the floor. “Fair enough.”

The only thing that kept her from proving her point more—because she could tell he’d held back—was the small amount of respect she could see in his eyes. With a brusque nod, she followed him down the hall.

EIGHTEEN NOVELS TO CAPTURE YOUR HEART
AND SET YOUR BLOOD ON FIRE!

Beyond Love and Hate by Zoe York - Tall, dark, handsome, and totally infuriating. Beth can't stop thinking about her new colleague. But Finn isn't the guy for her, and they both know it.

Review by pearls
Beth and Finn love to push one another's buttons.  Their verbal banter is fun to watch.  But when the gloves come off, their physical butting of heads leads to a more intimate. On it's surface, this is seems to be the clichéd haters to lovers story.  What I found unique was the slow process it took Finn to come to terms with his feelings.  People don't usually change overnight.  Author Zoe York takes us through the process as Finn comes to terms with his feelings.  I loved watching his evolution from pulling her pigtails to imagining a daughter in pigtails.  The scenes with his sisters are wonderful as they set him straight, making him face his true fears.

The Perfect Someday by Beverly Preston - Tracy lives by a strict moral code, but one masked night with a handsome Italian who entices her deepest desires changes everything.

Review by pearls
This is the 3rd story in the Mathews family saga, but like the others, it can be read as a standalone. It follows the life of Tracy as she graduates and moves forward with her life. As a fellow brainiac, I could completely relate to Tracy: part independent woman, part romantic. Set in Greece and Italy, it is filled with romantic scenes as well as angst. I love how the author engages all the senses in the process of reading the story, much as you would when appreciating a fine wine. I truly became lost in the moments. The beauty of the sunset was intoxicating, and that was before the kiss. My heart was broken and rejoicing along with the characters. And I can't wait to book my next vacation in the Italian wine country!

Plus 12 more steamy rmances

Their Second Chance by Milly Taiden - Nick lost the woman he loved to the heartbreak of infertility. One locked door will either leave them broken forever or back together.

Forever Sheltered by Deanna Roy - A doctor with a secret falls for the unorthodox art therapist at the hospital where he works, sparking a love affair that could destroy both their careers.

Kiss of Memory by V. M. Black - Will has spent his adult life locked in a Victorian sanitarium because he suffers from seizures, but a mysterious baroness offers him a bargain he can't refuse.

Ripped by Olivia Rigal - Lyv wants a life far from her dysfunctional family and their diner. What she gets is an absent rock-star baby daddy and one helluva choice to make.

My First, My Last by Lacey Silks - Pierced, tattooed and hot as hell, Adrian steps back into Mia's life after 20 years. Mature. More experienced. Intent on reclaiming his first love.

Azure by Chrystalla Thoma - On vacation in Greece, Olivia meets sexy and enigmatic Kai, but Kai belongs to the sea, and the sea won’t let him go, unless Olivia breaks the curse before it’s too late.

Wicked Little Sins by Holly Hood -The more wicked the sin, the deadlier it can be. Home for the funeral of their mother, four siblings unearth more than they bargained for.

The Royal Elite by Danielle Bourdon - Ahsan-Sheikh Ahsan Afshar, an arrogant, seductive rogue, falls for a woman whose deadly secrets could tear them apart.

High Risk Love by S.J. Mayer - Risking it all for the one who could shatter her heart completely? Bad idea. Yet Jasmine can't stay away from Jet any more than he can from her.

Rush by Violet Vaughn - Olympic hopeful Gretchen is all for a sex only relationship. But when it races out of control, love isn’t the only devastation that threatens her chance for gold.

Blurring Lines and Feelings in Broken

 The Only Exception: Broken
 by A.L. Davis
a Contemporary Romance
Mystery/Suspense/Military

“Everyone I’ve ever loved has been taken from me and I can’t take the heartache anymore. It’s time to build that wall around my heart and let no one in, no exceptions.”

Ellie never did know her mother; before she turned twenty she lost her father in the line of duty; a freak accident stole her fiancé from her before they had a chance to start their life together. She wants answers, but now that she’s living in a new town and trying to start over, she’s finding that it’s not that easy. Maybe new surroundings are what she needs to make it easier to move on and forget all about her old life. It could have been…until he showed up.

“Having the sort of job that is as dangerous as what I do doesn’t allow for a personal life, no exceptions.”

Jack and his team of military misfits have seen their fair share of war zones and violent criminals. Skilled in precision rescue operations, they’ve traveled into some of the most terrifying countries and stood up to intimidating adversaries, but when a mentor of Jack’s calls them in for a favor that he is unable to turn down, he finds himself up against his most challenging fear of all…his heart. There is a fine line between getting close enough to do your job and getting so close that you get attached. That line used to be obvious, but now that he’s met her, things have blurred and priorities have shifted. Can he keep his feelings in check and still protect Ellie from an adversary more dangerous and twisted than she could ever imagine?

Review by pearls
This book really pulled me in from the start.  Ellie is strong and independent, but also broken.  Jack is the same.  Together, they give each other the chance to repair and to dream of future.  But the danger in their lives keeps interfering with that dream and planting doubts of a future together.  Part Romance, there is great chemistry between Jack and Ellie.  Part Mystery/suspense, the story opens with a mysteriously dead fiancé and father and several secretive investigations.  The choice of making Ellie an investigative reporter was brilliant.  And Part Action/Military, there is a state of high alert through out the whole book, revving up the tension.  Will Zach and Ellie make it out together?  I don't know, but it is a wild ride to find out.

“And this…” I tossed the manila envelope back to the desk, “…is not a job. It’s a death sentence. My death sentence. I’m walking in blind. I mean, how do I know she’s not running from the law?”

Lou shook his head, his mouth contorting into a tight frown, and answered matter-of-factly, “She’s not. And why would that stop you?”

“How do I know for sure? How do you know for sure?” I challenged, making him smile.

Somehow, that irritated me even more. He was hiding something.

“Because I know,” he answered, lips pursed, eyes narrowing at me. He didn’t look away and neither did I. I wanted to know what he was thinking. What was he hiding? Unfortunately, he was going to make it difficult to find out.

I sighed, knowing that was the only answer I was going to get. “Is she hiding from her husband or boyfriend or something?”

“Most definitely not,” he answered with a heavy sigh, sadness flicking across his face.

This piqued my interest. And why was a small part of me so damn happy with that answer?

“Did she kill someone?” I figured I already knew the answer to this one, but I had to ask.

He chuckled. “Absolutely not.”

“What if she’s got the mob after her? Did she piss off a terrorist group?”

“So what if they are? So what if she did? You’ve been wrapped up in worse and handled it,” he answered quickly. “Stop with the stalling already, Jack. I need to know. Are. You. In.”

“Lou, I don’t help people against their will because if they won’t listen and do what I tell them to do, bad things happen. She doesn’t want me anywhere near her. She won’t even look at me, let alone talk to me. Ellie dodges me all day long. I tried to just talk to her like you asked me, but she avoids me like the plague and scurries off in the other direction. She looks at me like…like…”

“Like the frightened child she is,” Lou interrupted sighing.

He makes her weak in the knees

Honor of the Wolf
The Gray Pack #6
by Lori King
a Paranormal Shifter Romance
from Siren Publishing

Can be read as a stand-alone

BLURB
Being a Beta wolf in the Gray Pack is one of the highest honors Luke Gray has ever attained, but he wants so much more for himself and his pack. The recent shift in mating habits has disturbed his idyllic view of their way of life, and worse yet, no one else seems to understand his point of view.

Tavi Reid is a woman full of grit, and determination. She’s come too far, and worked too hard to let an arrogant man with a chip on his shoulder throw her off track. Even if he’s sexy as hell and makes her weak in the knees, she has to stay focused on her daughter and their future.

They are both tested with traumatic new changes to their lives, but will they lean on each other to get them through, or will these two independent individuals end up with disaster on their hands? Honor is not a right, it’s earned…

A Siren Erotic Romance

Review by pearls
As a regular reader of Lori King's books, I was used to lots of action and menages.  This book is a more intimate look at what happens as the mating bond forms.  With only two lovers, there is more focus on the feelings stirring between the two and less on the worries of how to make a menage work. The action is more domestic-based, again creating a more intimate look at the couple.  I am always excited to see an author willing to step outside their own comfort zone.  In Honor of the Wolf, Lori King crafts a story that shows Honor is how we live our life, not in how we were born or related to.  Luke has honor for his ability to grow as a person, not for his job or his bloodline.  Tavi has honor for how she has accepted her life and moved forward, not for who she connected herself to.  Together, I see them becoming a great strength to the Gray pack family.

STORY EXCERPT

“Why are you here, Luke?” she asked softly, tipping her head to look up at him. In the shadows of the night, he looked lethal and sexy as hell. His granite-sharp jaw worked with tension and his full lips pursed in thought.
“I needed to see you again.”
She shook her head. “Why? Didn’t we say everything we needed to say last night? You’re a young, sexy, single guy looking for a one-night stand, and I’m a tired, single mom. That’s like trying to mix oil and water. It won’t work.”
“You think I’m sexy?” he asked, the corner of his mouth curving up. She laughed, and shook her head. “Look, Tavi, I don’t know why I’m here, or honestly how I ended up here.” The genuine look of confusion on his face concerned her, but it was the honesty in his eyes when he lowered to a crouch in front of her, that really stole her heart. “I feel like there’s something in my chest that’s connected to you. When I try to stay away it pulls me back. I don’t understand it, and I don’t know how else to explain it, but it’s there. I don’t know shit about relationships, so I can’t promise you more, but—”
“Did you hit your head, Luke? I have a daughter. I don’t do one-night stands, and I sure as hell don’t do them with men who stalk me,” she interrupted, frustrated by the deep desire in her heart to say yes.
“Stalk you?”
She gestured around them. “Well I don’t see you visiting so often for the ambiance.”
“I’m not trying to stalk you. Shit. I just want to spend some time with you.”
“So what, you’re going to get to know me out of curiosity?”
“No! Yes. Maybe? I don’t know.” He looked so confused and frazzled that it made Tavi’s heart ache for him. She wasn’t sure she wanted him to know how strong the feelings in her own body were right now.
“When you do know what you want, you know where to find me.” She stood and turned to leave, only to run smack into his hard chest. With a startled yelp she clutched his shirt to keep from falling over. She had no idea how he’d moved so quickly, but she didn’t have time to ask before his mouth came down on hers.
She might have chalked up yesterday’s physical reaction to a fluke, but as he pulled her in close and ravished her mouth she felt her heart pounding in her chest. This was no fluke. This was passion, and a perfect feeling of rightness in the world. Luke fit her like a puzzle piece, and together they were explosive.
Pulling back, she ended the kiss with a gasp of fresh air and a groan of disappointment. There was no way she could keep putting him off if he kept kissing her.
“Luke, I can’t.”
His eyes flashed in the shadows of the night, and she could see his jaw muscle clenching in frustration. “Why?”
“I’ve already told you why. I don’t want either of us to get hurt. You aren’t what I need in my life.” She backed away from him, pulling her coat tight around her chest to combat the icy cold air on her scorching hot body.
“How do you know that if you won’t even get to know me?”
She shook her head and fought back tears. “I’ve already survived one man who convinced me to listen to my body instead of logic.”
A heavy silence settled between them, and Tavi felt torn. Her instincts were telling her to throw herself back into his arms and hold on for dear life. She wanted to spend eternity wrapped up in his embrace. But it just wasn’t the right thing for her, or her daughter.
“I’ve got to get back to work. Go home, Luke, and forget this ever happened.” She made it to the parking lot before he spoke again, but his words echoed in her head for the rest of the night.
“I can’t. I wish I could, baby, but I can’t.”

ADULT EXCERPT

Hearing Tavi ask him for the thing he desired most made his balls draw up tight, and his cock twitch painfully behind the zipper of his jeans. With a gentle push, she sat on the edge of the bed with him between her knees. It put her pert breasts at the perfect level for him to devour. Licking the tip of one while he teased the tip of the other, he began to seduce her body with his.
Every stroke was matched with a moan, or a pleasure-filled sigh, and his cock grew harder and hotter. She smelled of jasmine and raw woman. The sexually potent fragrance made his wolf mindlessly happy and wild with the primal desire to sink both his cock and his canine teeth into her, marking her as his own.
He set about worshiping her body with his tongue and his fingers. Falling back on the bed, she murmured words of pleasure and need, sometimes making sense, and other times incomprehensible.
With her pussy spread open to him, he slid his fingers into her pale pink opening, and had to bite his lip at the velvet heat that surrounded them. She was going to be tight. He was larger than most human men, and she was much smaller than he’d expected. Then again, he’d never been with a woman who’d had a child, so he hadn’t truly known what to expect.
What he got was a sexual goddess. She was beautiful, right down to the teeny tiny white lines that dotted her lower abdomen. She bore the scars of her pregnancy, but it wasn’t a turn-off. It actually fulfilled some primal need inside of him to find a woman that could bear his children. A strong mate.
Before he allowed himself to drift too far down that road, he focused his tongue on her sweet cunt, and began teasing her toward her first orgasm of the night. Her flavor was a deliciously salty-sweet blend and the more he got, the more he wanted. The folds of her pussy were soft against his tongue, and moisture dripped from her opening as her hips thrust up against his mouth seeking more from him. He didn’t make her wait for it, instead he focused all of his energy on bringing her to a fast, hard climax. She didn’t disappoint, jerking underneath him as her cunt spasmed around his thick fingers.
To his surprise she was almost completely silent in her orgasm. Her face twisted and her mouth dropped open with a sharp exhale, but no other noise left her throat. If it weren’t for the obvious reaction under his fingers and tongue he would have doubted how good it was for her.
After a few breaths she caught him staring up at her from between her thighs and she blushed. It stroked his ego to see her cheeks stained with pink and her body trembling underneath him.
Bending, he nipped her inner thigh, and she protested. “Ouch! Hey!”
“You taste good.”
Her cheeks grew even redder, but she returned his grin. “I’ll return the favor if you let me up.”
Luke bit back a growl of need, and shook his head. “As much as I’d love to watch you suck my cock, I’m on the edge of my control already. That will have to wait for later.”
Rising above her, he pressed forward and her thighs spread around his hips in welcome. He kissed his way back up her torso to her sweet tits, pleasuring each one with his tongue, and teeth, before continuing to her collarbone. The moment he reached that thick tendon that connected her shoulder to her neck, his teeth sharpened instinctively. His wolf wanted to mate her, and it was going to take everything he had to resist it.
Burying his face in her hair, he could hear her murmuring words of encouragement as her hands began roaming over his bare chest and shoulders. His jeans felt like they were strangling his cock, and he groaned when her fingers made their way down to his zipper.
“Take them off, Luke, please?”
Her pretty plea was music to his ears, and he rushed to release his erection from confinement. It throbbed against her thigh as he shoved his pants to his knees, and she froze.
“Holy shit.”
“What’s wrong, baby?” Luke frowned in confusion and then realized that she was staring at his cock.
“You’re massive!”
He felt ten feet tall with her staring at him in wonder and appreciation, and he let out a loud laugh. “That’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever said to me.”
“Well don’t let it go to your head, big guy. You haven’t proved you can use it yet.”
Pressing the head of his cock against her labia, he rubbed it up and down her slit, coating it in her juices. “Open up for me, love.”
She pulled her knees up and back, giving him complete access to her sweet honeypot, and he eased it home. It took several gentle thrusts, but before he knew it he was buried balls deep inside of her hot passage and instinct took over.
