Excerpt from Stranded:

“My sex life is none of your business.” It was a neutral answer, wasn’t it?

He pulled her toward him with a light tug. “That long, huh?” Nick said with a smug smile.

At that moment, all she wanted to do was to wipe that self-satisfied smirk off his face. Instead, she broke free of his hold and resumed her walk, desperate to reach the pond’s edge.

“I’ll have you know,” she explained, “That Lance and I…we have an intellectual bond.”

“Right,” Nick interjected. “Translation, he’s a lousy lay.”

“I never said that!” she wailed and turned to face him.

He waited a second. “You’re not denying it either.”

Finally, the boiling point. “You know,” she said keeping her voice from shaking, “I happen to think on a higher plane than just the physical attraction.”

“Bullshit!” He laughed. “You sound to me like a woman whose well is dry.”

Shana was aghast. Dry well? Her well was fine and dandy thank you very much!

When Nick said nothing else, she stared at him, her eyes sending death rays his way. Inside she was crumbling, falling apart. She was tired, angry and spent, physically and emotionally, and at that moment, she teetered with what to do next, slap Nick across the face or throw herself in his arms.

“Pompous jerk!” Shana declared and stepped back intent on rushing to the edge even if it meant running. In her haste, she slipped on a mossy rock and her legs gave out. “What the…” In a split second, Nick was by her side holding her securely in his arms.

AUTHOR BIO

Maria Cox has a degree in Business Administration with a Minor in Computer Applications. She also has an accreditation from the Project Management Institute.

Maria has been writing stories since she was a young girl. She picked up her first romance novel when she was just eleven years old and has loved the genre ever since. Her first published novel, Wicked Lustful Tales, Vol. 1 was released in October 2013.

Maria enjoys reading different genres but writes primarily sensual romance, stories that showcase characters that are funny, sassy, and sexy.

When she’s not writing, Maria works a technical writer. She reads, exercises, and also volunteers. She lives in Queens, New York.

Maria is a PRO member of Romance Writers of America (RWA) and a member of RWA-NYC & RWA Desert Rose. She is also is the past President of the Phoenix Writers Club.

“Do you absolutely have to play tonight? It’s hard walking around without looking at things. I’m going to crash into someone’s scene,” a familiar voice said.

Kai gave her a smile. “He’s trying to avoid seeing you half naked.”

“She’s actually quite covered,” Mitch admitted.

He looked utterly delicious. No matter what kind of problems they might have, there was no denying the fact that this man got her motor running like no other. Sanctum was filled with gorgeous men, but Mitch seemed to stand above the rest. He was so masculine, with his broad shoulders and cut chest on display. She loved how petite she felt when he held her. He seemed to like to show off how strong he was by carrying her around.

Will brought his head up, his eyes opening cautiously. He seemed to relax. “All right. I suppose I can handle that. What kind of scene are you two doing tonight?”

Mitch moved to her side, his eyes going to the collar around her neck. She could practically feel the satisfaction pouring off him in waves. He might not want her as a wife, but she could tell he was enjoying keeping a submissive. “I’m doing a ropes demonstration, and no, you will not want to watch. We’re up very soon, so you and Bridget should stay on the east side of the dungeon. I hear Weston and his wife are doing an impact play scene.”

“I’m going to find a pretty little pain slut and get my freak on,” Kai promised. He looked nothing like his normal self. Kai was usually very intellectual looking. Like the professor at college every girl wanted to date. But with his hair down around his shoulders and dressed in leathers and motorcycle boots, the good psychologist looked dangerous. And definitely ready for some fun. Of course, his idea of fun had to do with pain.

Review by pearls

Lexi Blake has built a family of characters that I love to return to, each with their own unique personalities and quirks. While the focus of each story is difference, the interactions between the characters allows you to watch this family grow. Li is always good for a laugh, Big Tag is always bigger than life, the subbies are fiercely independent. In this story, Mitch and Lauren have finally acted on their feelings. But Mitch has kept his bottled up for so long, he doesn't know how to show his true feelings. Lauren's patience shows him that he can be safe opening his heart up again. I love that Lexi Blake writes strong women. Lauren is not walked on by a cold man. She sees the good in him and is willing to fight to bring it out, saving him from himself. Together they are able to create a family and a place to finally call home.
