Getting Lucky--in more ways than one!

Boots and Twisters
Ugly Stick Saloon, #7
By Myla Jackson
a Western Ménage Erotica
 Samhain Publishing, Ltd.
Welcome back to the Ugly Stick Saloon!

Two ranchers are about to get Lucky—in more ways than one.

Lucky Albright’s unlucky streak is so long and wide that she’s been run out of one town and it looks like it may happen again.

When she finds herself out of money and out of gas in Temptation, Texas, a part-time job from the kind owner of the Ugly Stick Saloon gives her a glimmer of hope that this time things will be different.

Trent Jameson and Isaac Moore have always believed you make your own luck, but a black cloud of disaster seems to hover over their new hand. Under a tumbling stack of hay, Isaac discovers what Lucky’s hiding beneath baggy clothes and a tough exterior. Enough sexy curves to satisfy both men’s appetites.

But it isn’t long before Lucky’s history starts wreaking havoc all over town. It’ll take a force of nature to help the ranchers convince the law, the Garden Club—even Lucky herself—that now is no time to hit the road.

Warning: Hot cowboys meet hot cowgirl, and there’s a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on in Temptation. Get your twist-and-shout on at the Ugly Stick Saloon!

Trent went to work stacking the hay on another wall, one bale at a time. Halfway through the stack, his muscles burned and he’d worked up a good sweat. He was feeling better and had almost forgotten the woman at the saloon.

With several tall columns of bales leaning against one wall, Trent was about to start a stack in front of them when a noise made him turn around.
A slim figure in jeans and a chambray shirt entered Thunder’s horse stall.
Thunder hadn’t been ridden since Dusty the ranch foreman had been tossed and ended up in the hospital.
Trent started to say something to the new ranch hand about the horse and his temperament. Before he could, the hand emerged, leading a placid Thunder out by his lead rope. If the horse had an attitude, it wasn’t on display that morning.
The cowboy had his head dipped, his cowboy hat pulled low. Between the dim lighting in the barn and the shadows from the rim of his hat, Trent couldn’t see the cowboy’s face. Covered in sweat and hay, Trent didn’t feel much like introducing himself yet. But he watched as the young man led the horse out of the barn. A few minutes later, he returned and entered the stall with the wheelbarrow, and soon had a pile of soiled straw loaded into it.
Trent resumed his work on the hay, keeping a watch on the new guy from the corner of his eye.
One stall after the other the young cowboy worked. When he completed the last stall and was pushing the last wheelbarrow load of soiled straw toward the door, Trent decided it was time to inspect the job and introduce himself.

"Wait up, there.” Trent tossed the bale he’d been carrying, dusted the straw off his gloves and crossed to the ranch hand. He glanced past the man’s shoulder into the cleaned stall and noted it was cleaner than he or Isaac usually got it. “Name’s Trent Jameson.” He held out his hand. “Nice work you’ve been doin’ there.”
For a moment the cowboy froze. Then gripped Trent’s hand with his own gloved one. “Thanks.” The cowboy refused to look up, keeping his chin tucked in, his head lowered.
Trent couldn’t look the man in the eye. He didn’t trust a man who wouldn’t look him directly in the eye. “You got a name?”

“Lucky.” Trent digested that. “Nickname?”
The ranch hand shook his head and tipped his hat lower over his head. “I better go dump this.” As he hurried around Trent, the wheel ran over Trent’s toe.

“Ow!” Trent yanked his foot back and teetered on one leg.
“Oh my gosh!” The cowboy’s hands flew in the air and the wheelbarrow dumped over, the contents rshing out, knocking Trent backward. He slammed into the freshly stacked hay bales and they swayed.
Trent glanced up, his breath hitching.

“Oh no.” The young cowboy launched himself at the hay, tripped over the pile of dung and straw and, instead of catching the bales before they toppled, sprawled out on top of Trent.
The bales tipped and fell, one after the other, landing on or near them.
Several grunts sounded from the cowboy who took the bulk of the pummeling.
His hat flew off and long sandy-blonde hair tangled with the loose hay flying around the interior of the barn.
Trent blinked the hay and dust out of his eyes and stared up into pretty gray eyes, the color of storm clouds. “You!”
The woman he’d been dreaming about kissing planted her hands against his chest and tried to push herself off him.
“Yes, me.”
He opened his mouth to admit he thought he’d never see her again. Thinking better of it, he demanded, “What the hell are you doing here?”

“Working.” Jerking her leg out from under a heavy bale, she managed to roll off him and onto the ground. “What does it look like?” As agile as a cat, she shot to her feet.
“I can see that. But why?”
“Isaac hired me as the new ranch hand.”
“What?” Trent stood and stared at her.

“Is it so hard to believe a woman can be as effective and efficient at ranch work as a man?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“No, you didn’t have to.” She stood, brushing the hay from her jeans but missing the straws stuck in her hair. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to get to work cleaning this up.”
“I didn’t say I agreed with Isaac’s decision to hire you.
She planted her hands on her hips. “You gonna fire me?”
He glared at her. “I don’t know.”
“Well, until you say otherwise, I have work to do.”
Trent climbed over the bales to stand in front of her. “Like I said last night. You’re trouble.”
Something clouded her already stormy eyes. “Maybe, but I work hard and I know my way around a ranch.”
She grabbed a bale and threw it up onto the stack.
“I gathered that.” And she was beautiful with fire in her eyes and hay in her hair. Trent worked alongside her until they had all the hay stacked in neat rows. When they were done, he brushed straw off his body and grinned. She’d worked hefting as many bales as he had. So, she could lift bales.
Lucky flicked hay off her shoulders. “If we’re done here, there’s a fence on the northeast corner of the property I intend to fix.”
“You can’t do that.
“Why not?” she asked.
“Because it’s a two-man—person—job.”
“I’ve strung fence with and without help. I can handle it.”
“Maybe so, but we use the buddy rule around here. Unless you’re working around the house or barn, you always take a buddy with you. That way if one or the other is hurt, you have someone there to help.”
She looked at him through slitted eyes. “You’re making that up.”
He held up two fingers. “Scout’s honor.”
Her eyes narrowed even more. “When were you ever a Scout?”
His lips twisted. “Okay, so I’ve never been a Scout. But we do use the buddy system. I’ll go with you.”
Her full, soft lips tightened. “How do you usually get there?”
“I take the four-wheeler. You can ride on the back.”
“Is that how you and your partner…er, brother ride out?”
“We usually take a couple of four-wheelers, but one of them is in the shop for repair.”
She hesitated then nodded. “Okay. Let’s go.”
Trent gathered the come-along, a roll of barbed wire, pliers, a hammer and a couple of metal fence posts and the heavy pounder used to drive them in.
Lucky took half of the supplies and carried them out into the open, then went back for the other half while Trent pulled the four-wheeler out of one of the storage areas in the barn.
Loading what she could in the box on the back, she settled the fence posts over the box and Trent strapped them down along with the pole pounder.
“I’ll get my hat and be ready to go.” Lucky disappeared into the barn.
Isaac joined Trent, carrying two water bottles. He settled them in the box with the tools. “I take it you’ve met our new ranch hand.”
Trent gave Isaac a withering look. “Yeah. You could have warned me.”

“She has the experience and know-how. And from the looks of it, the stamina.” Isaac’s lips twitched.
“Don’t go there.”

Night Owl Review a TOP PICK!:

"Humor is everywhere in this erotic romance as it seems no matter what Lucky does something unexpected happens. But, this story is so much more than just a humorous romance. Lucky isn’t your typical female lead...I think this is one of the best stories in this series and that is saying a lot!"

He'd do his damnedest to fulfill her fantasies

Forget Me Never
Hell Yeah! Book 7 (Cajun Style)
by Sable Hunter

The Hell Yeah! Series Continues with Forget Me Never (Hell Yeah! Book 7 - Cajun Style)

Some truly lucky people experience a love so great that nothing can separate them. Distance, misunderstandings or even death are not powerful enough to stop the longing and the hunger and the desire to be together. Patrick loves Savannah. He is a Marine who faces danger on a daily basis and his greatest fear is to be forgotten.

Savannah loves Patrick. Because of the circumstances of her birth, she has grown up never knowing what it is like to be touched or hugged or accepted by anyone. The haunting mists of Louisiana, the ravaging horrors of war, and the remnants of an ancient disease will try to pull them apart, until their destiny draws them together and they discover a love so perfect that it will last forever.

The TV was on, the food was spread out and she had on as close to something sexy as she owned. Savannah had more on her mind than football. “Wow, this looks great!” Patrick was a big eater, so she had fixed plenty.

“Did you have a good conversation wit
h your friend?”

“Yes, I did. We talked about you, mostly.” He settled down on the couch – just stretched out and left her a little spot in the corner. “Come here, I want to cuddle.”

“What did you say about me?” She sat on her legs and looked him in the eye.

“You’re a nosy little thing, aren’t you?” Patrick teased.

“A little bit.”

She fed him a bite of pizza. He took the bite, captured her hand and licked the remaining spot of sauce off her fingers. “I just told him how I felt about you. And we discussed some business, that’s all.” There was more to it than that, but he wasn’t ready to tell her everything – not yet. “Look, the game’s starting.”

Typical male, he got into the game. Savannah had a good time watching him. He yelled at the quarterback. He snarled at the referees, but mostly he looked disturbed because the first half was almost over and the Colts were ahead of the Saints. “It’s okay.”

Patrick knew it was okay. But this game had come to mean more to him than just his favorite team winning the big prize. It might be silly, but he had wound this all up with his chances of being with Savannah. “The game’s not over.”

“No, it’s not.” There were a few minutes left until halftime and then The Who were going to sing. Savannah was still hungry – but not for food.

“Come on Brees!” Patrick yelled at the Saints quarterback. “Do something!”

Savannah decided to make her own play. He was sitting about a foot away from her. He had been closer, but he was eating and getting into the game and somehow he’d moved away from her. That would never do. He wasn’t paying any attention to her at all, so when she let her hand inch his way – she waited to see what he would do.

Patrick knew Savannah thought he was oblivious to her advances. She was letting her fingers do the walking – literally. Her little hand was inching toward him, and he couldn’t wait to see what she was up to. He leaned forward just like he was engrossed in the game. Right now he was more interested in her, but he wasn’t going to let on.

She let her fingers touch his hard thigh – just barely. First, she pushed her hand under his legs just a little bit, like it was cold and she was trying to get warm. He just grunted – he wasn’t taking the hint. Next, she let her fingers walk up his leg, like a little spider – still, nothing. Damn! Getting a mite bolder, she curled her hand over the top of his leg and rubbed her thumb up and down on the strong muscle. He had the audacity to pat her hand and say, “Hey, Baby. How’s it going?”

Patrick bit back a smile when she huffed and muttered under her breath. It was the same little voice she’d used the day they met in the memorial when her friend had been embarrassing the heck out of her.

Before Patrick, she would never have attempted something like this. But he had given her confidence in her attraction that no one ever had. So, she let her hand – slide upward – upward toward his crotch, until she bumped into something rather large and hard.

“Uh-Oh,” She looked up at Patrick.

“I’m kinda trying to watch the game here, Baby,” he said with a smirk, trying not to laugh.

The feel of Patrick’s bulge had caused a stir in her sex which made her feel naughty. She fixed Patrick with a vexed glare, but he ignored her eyes. She huffed, and withdrew her hand from the firm bulge that she’d wanted to explore further and folded her arms defensively across her chest. Her first attempt at seduction, and Patrick had rejected her; this didn’t sit well with Savannah.

Savannah sat on the couch as halftime drew closer and the Saints marched down the field. Beside her, Patrick watched her out of the corner of his eye. The brazen way she’d grabbed for his package had turned him on, but he wanted to see how she would handle his rejection, see if she wanted him bad enough to make another move.

Savannah was doing a horrible job of masking her displeasure and when she innocently moved her hands up over her head for a stretch, something in the way her head tilted to the side filled Patrick with a need to kiss her neck.

Patrick shimmied a few inches closer to his Savannah and now it was her turn to pretend she didn’t notice what he was doing.

When Patrick shimmied a few more inches, Savannah picked up a magazine from the end table beside her; she wasn’t going to make this easy on him.

A few more inches and Patrick was close enough that his essence made her legs squirm.
“Hey,” Patrick said.

He was right beside her now, his thickly muscled arm pressed against hers, their thighs touching.
Savannah ignored him.

“Whatcha readin’?” He inquired, snatching the magazine from her hands.

Patrick held the magazine just out of Savannah’s reach. She made one grab for it, but gave up, not wanting to give him the satisfaction.

Savannah looked away from him. Not her best move if she hoped to remain cross with Patrick. That small patch of bare skin on Savannahs neck that had caused the tightness in Patrick’s jeans was now fully exposed and with Savannah looking the other way, he seized the opportunity and leaned in to kiss it softly.

Savannah flinched when she felt Patrick’s gentle lips on her neck, then her shoulder. “Pa…trick,” she said, forgetting almost all of the annoyance he’d inspired in her so recently. “Stop,” she offered weakly, but tilted her neck further to the side to grant him even greater access.

“Stop?” Patrick kissed her neck. “Stop what?”

He licked up to Savannah’s ear, nibbling on the lobe lightly before moving back down to her collarbone.

Savannah whimpered with appreciation. Gone now was any semblance of the frustration and rejection she’d felt, in its place was nothing but bliss. The skin on her neck was dimpled with goosebumps; her chest beginning to flush.

“You want me to go?” Patrick asked between kisses.

His hand had found its way around to the front of her shirt, undoing first the top button of her blouse and then the next one.

Savannah placed her hand behind Patrick’s head as he kissed her collarbone and shoulder. “I thought you wanted to watch the game?” The words barely came out of her mouth in an audible tone.

“I’d rather watch you,” Patrick whispered in her ear.

Savannah’s round bottom levitated from the couch when Patrick hit that magic spot just behind her ear. “I have to tell you, this is one of my favorite fantasies in the whole world.”

Patrick’s hand stilled. “What’s that, Baby?” If she had a fantasy, he would do his damnedest to fulfill it.

Friends with Benefits was never part of his plan

Rising Assets

Maverick Montana series

Friends with benefits was never the plan…

Melanie Jacobs is in trouble. With three jobs—including running her ranch—and dwindling funds, she’s exhausted. Not to mention desperately trying to hide a secret. Unfortunately, her best friend Colton Freeze knows all too well that’s something is going on, and he won’t give up until he knows exactly what he needs to fix.

Then Colton learns the truth—that Melanie’s future happiness rests in the fickle hands of fate, and her chances for having a family are shrinking with every passing day. Her only comfort is Colton, but when a heated argument between them turns into an even hotter kiss, the boundaries of their friendship are erased, leaving only a scorching-hot hunger for more.

Every kiss—every touch—is a stolen pleasure. But will their new friends-with-sexy-benefits arrangement bring them closer together, or destroy everything they once shared?

 review by pearls:  4 stars
Colton is the man with the plan.  Whether it's finances or life, he has it all planned out.  So when his best friend is in trouble, he steps in to solve everything for her.  But he didn't plan on kissing her.  And now he can't imagine anyone else stepping into her life.  Melanie is fiercely independent and doesn't want to risk losing her best friend, despite her desires for another kiss. Once they let go of their previous plans and turn to each other, there is no going back.   While this is the third in a series, it definitely stands on its own.  Melanie, Colton, and the cast of family and friends are good down home people that you would know in your daily life.  Their passion is hot.  The town's efforts to get the two together is comical, while the war injuries of their third wheel Hawk brings a somber note.  I can't wait for his story, and am definitely going back to pick up the Lodge brothers' tales.

Rebecca Zanetti's Top 10 Great Heroes

First, a huge thank you to Inner Goddess Forum for having me over today to celebrate the release of RISING ASSETS at less than a dollar!  I’m so excited to be here.  The hero in Rising Assets is a sexy cowboy, and I got to thinking about heroes in general.  Here’s a top ten list of great heroes:

1)      Dean Winchester:  Talk about a wounded anti-hero here.  Dean will sacrifice anything and everything for family, and he often does.  In addition, he’ll fight evil and give up his life to help anybody.  But he drinks a lot…and he breaks hearts left and right.  It’d be amazing to be the one girl who tamed this guy.  J

2)      Roarke.  He’s the hero in J.D. Robb’s Death series.  Roarke is a guy with a bad past trying to find a good future…which is smart since he married a cop.  He tries to stay inside the lines for her, but there’s no question he’ll cross over if necessary.  Plus, he’s tall, dark with blue eyes, and Irish.  Very hot!

3)      Ranger.  He’s one of the heroes in Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.  Ranger is a bad boy trying to do some good—sexy, dark, and deadly.  (Are you seeing a pattern here?)  J

4)      Malcolm Reynolds.  In Joss Wheden’s Firefly, Mal is the leader of a group of misfits trying to travel space and keep their freedom.  They also try to balance the scales between good and evil, right and wrong, even though lots of time they’re not sure which side they’re really on.

5)      Indiana Jones.  I love Indy.  He can solve any problem, is afraid of snakes, and always gets the girl.  He’s got a great brain and uses it often—as well as a strong sense of good vs. evil.  This is a guy you’d want on your side if the world blew up.

6)      Rick Blain.  Yeah, you knew we’d get to Humphrey Bogart at some time, right?  Rick is the classic anti-hero (as are most of the fellas up above).  In Casablanca, his past is sketchy, his present unnerving, and his future up in the air.  Yet he’s strong and determined to live life on his own terms – ultimately sacrificing love for the better good.  In the scene where Ilsa says something about the first time they met, the same day the Germans marched into Paris, Rick says it wasn’t an easy day to forget.  Ilsa agrees, and Rick says, “I remember very detail.  The Germans wore gray, you wore blue.”  Sigh.

7)      Sheriff John Biebe.  Russell Crow played the sheriff in Mystery, Alaska, a movie about a small town waaaay up north.  He is a big fish in a small pond, ice skating is king, and the story comes down to a David v. Goliath finish.  The sheriff rocks.

8)      Angel.    It’s probably not a big surprise that I like vampires and tall, dark, and deadly men.  Angel is a fun hero because he constantly fights his inner demon to be good, even though he believes there’s no way he’ll ever find redemption.  Yet he keeps on fighting.

9)      Seeley Booth.  Yes, he’s the hero in Bones (and Angel), and he’s an FBI agent who truly draws the line between good and evil.  He’s an ex-sniper with a lot of blood on his hands, but he’s okay with most of it since he was serving his country.  His character is fascinating…but the guy also has abs of steel.  Just sayin.

10)   Will Hunting.  There’s something about the lost, genius, tough guy that is so appealing.  He wants to stay with his friends in Southey, but knows there’s something else waiting for him, if he’d just use that incredible intellect.  The struggle is a fascinating one to watch.

So there’s my list of current top ten heroes.  I hope you enjoy the hero in Rising Assets…Colton Freeze.
