STORY EXCERPT

She sprinted down the stairs to find them still in the kitchen, and if their body language and the heavy feeling in the air were any indication, they’d been discussing something serious.
Mason headed for the hallway. “I guess I should take a shower, too. We both still smell like sex.”
“I like smelling like sex.” Lee winked at her, but the emotion in his eyes wasn’t the same as usual. What had they been talking about? “But I’ll go take one, too. Make yourself at home, beautiful. We won’t be long, and then we’ll take you out and show you our lovely town.”
“Sounds like fun.” She watched them both leave and almost ran after them. Was everything okay? Had they been discussing her? Surely they didn’t regret last night, did they? No. Less than half an hour ago they’d asked her to be their sub. Whatever they were talking about probably had nothing to do with her. She was being paranoid and falling back on previous experiences. Lee and Mason weren’t Dennis. They were never going to treat her like he had. That was over.
Except that he was still driving around Racy. What if Sean couldn’t find him? What if he showed up at Notus, or tried to get onto the grounds here? What if they walked around town this afternoon and spotted him?
She dropped into the nearest chair and rested her chin in her hands. Every euphoric feeling she’d had since walking into the club last night deflated as if they’d been balloons, and someone had popped them all simultaneously.
How could she have a relationship—especially a BDSM relationship—with these men while Dennis was still out there? How on earth would this ever be over? And what would she do if the e-mails or Facebook posts started up again?
She rose and walked down the hallway, absorbing the energy in the house. She’d never lived in such a quiet, comfortable place. It was decorated in such a way that made her wonder if he’d hired someone to do it. If he hadn’t, he had real talent. Most of the pieces were obviously expensive, and some were probably antiques. It was still hard to fathom that she lived here now.
Everything was happening so fast. She didn’t regret what she’d done last night or Monday with Lee and Mason. Not at all. But she was worried about how Dennis’s presence in Racy would eventually affect both men. Had moving in here with them on the spur of the moment been the wisest decision?
Harper wandered through the rooms, admiring the fabrics and the logic to the decorating in each room. She loved being here. Yes, the decision had been spontaneous, but it didn’t feel wrong. Not even in the depths of her soul. It felt right. Living here with Lee and Mason felt perfect.
It felt like she belonged here. That certainty was so strong, as if she’d been waiting for these two all her life. But was that enough on which to build a relationship? Had she merely swapped an office fling for this? No. It couldn’t be. Then again, she didn’t exactly have a track record for taking relationships slowly.
But Lee and Mason weren’t anything like the others, and certainly not like Dennis. They didn’t insult her, for one thing. Dennis had thought he was being so surreptitious in the way he’d sneak in comments about her weight, but he wasn’t. They stung like crazy. Lee and Mason, on the other hand, thought she was the sexiest woman they’d ever seen.
They made her feel alive and beautiful in so many ways. They cared about her safety, and they wanted her happy. They’d worked so hard last night to make sure she was enjoying herself, and to ensure her fantasies were met. Dennis had never once asked if she was enjoying the sex, or if she wanted to do anything differently. Not once.
Harper shook her head. She hadn’t thought about that until just now. The sex had all been one-sided. He’d been so damn arrogant that he’d always just assumed she loved it. Lee and Mason went out of their way to make sure she did, and she hadn’t expected that.
They went out of their way to make sure she enjoyed everything they did together, and they weren’t ashamed to take her out in public. They were everything she’d ever wanted the men she’d dated to be. How could this not be right? She’d waited her entire life for these two men.
When she heard their voices calling her, she made her way back to the main hallway again. Both men were freshly showered with damp hair, and dressed in jeans and sweaters. They looked so damn yummy and so sexy, and they had their glasses on again as well. She smiled and approached them both, holding out her arms.
Mason pulled her close first. “Did you get lost?”
His voice was filled with the usual humor, and a shiver ran down her spine. Everything would be okay. She felt certain of it. “Almost. This home is incredible. Did you decorate it yourself?”
He shook his head. “I have an aunt who lives for that sort of thing. She did most of it.”
He released the embrace and Lee took her hand. “Are you ready to see your new town through the eyes of two jaded natives?”
She couldn’t help but laugh. His face held no trace of the earlier worry she’d glimpsed in the kitchen. Whatever had been going on, it was gone now. “Are you two jaded? That’s not good. I was hoping for a tour from two residents who loved this place.”
“Fat chance.” His grin didn’t match his words, and she sighed. She loved Lee’s humor as much as she loved Mason’s more serious demeanor. They complemented each other well, and it was such a rush having the best of both of them at times like this. How could she give this up? She couldn’t. There was no way.

ADULT EXCERPT

She knocked on the door, and Mason’s voice called for her to come in. As soon as she crossed the threshold, she sensed the change in both men. They wore dour expressions. Mason sat in the leather chair behind the desk, and Lee was on the sofa, one ankle crossed over the opposite knee, as though they’d been discussing her.
“Miss Montgomery,” said Mason, pointing toward a straight-backed chair in front of his desk. “Come in. Sit down.”
“What did I do, Mr. Sinclair?”
“Sit down. We’re asking the questions this afternoon, not you.” His voice was hard, and even though she knew it was play-acting, she shivered just the same. He was so convincing.
Mason peered at her over the tops of his glasses, which was so damn sexy she nearly came. “You’re here because Mr. Parker and I received an alarming report that you sent out a letter with several mistakes in it to a very important client of ours.”
Harper had to bite back a laugh. This was so much fun, but it was also incredibly corny, like she was in a porno. But, she’d asked for this, and she wanted to make it fun for them.
Lee uncrossed his legs and leaned forward. “You find that funny?” His voice was filled with incredulity, and she decided to play along with the who-gives-a-shit brat angle.
“Yeah, I do. So what? Everyone makes mistakes.”
“But everyone doesn’t get caught,” said Lee, his voice soft but too damn sexy for his own good. “You did. So you’re the one who gets punished for it.”
She let out a quick breath that fluttered her bangs. “Punished? Seriously? Can’t I simply retype the letter? Aren’t you two taking this a bit far?”
The corners of Mason’s mouth turned up, and Harper knew they were enjoying the way she’d played this. It sent her arousal to crazy heights. “No. We had something more enduring and impressionable in mind.” He stood, and as her gaze drifted over his crotch, it was easy to see how aroused he was. “Stand up and lean over the desk, Miss Montgomery.”
“You’re joking. This is a place of business. You can’t do this.”
Lee stood and moved next to her, pulling her out of the chair by one arm. “We’re not joking. Don’t make us restrain you, Miss Montgomery.”
“You can’t do that to me. I’ll go to HR.”
Lee nuzzled her neck, and Harper could barely hold back her moan. “We own this company and HR will be on our side. We can do this, and we will. Now lean over the desk and take your punishment like a good secretary. You brought this on yourself.”
He kicked the chair over, and gave her just enough of a gentle shove that she took a few steps forward, stopping as Mason picked up a thick leather strap and smacked it against one palm. The sound it made sent fresh waves of desire coursing through her body, even while she imagined how much that sucker would burn.
He pointed. “We told you to bend over the desk. Do it now.” His voice was so convincing it was scary, but she absolutely loved this.
“No way. You’re not hitting me with that thing.”
“That’s it.” Lee strode over to the credenza and picked up a coil of soft-looking rope. She’d seen bondage rope in Tye Me Up, and she remembered Alexa telling her that it wasn’t like twine or other kinds of rope. It was very soft and made restraining even bare skin safe and comfortable.
He stepped behind her and pulled her arms behind her back before she could protest. All she could was try to keep breathing as he bound her wrists together, with her arms bent at an angle. It didn’t hurt at all, but she couldn’t move her arms, either.
Mason crossed the room and picked up a small cushion from an armchair. “Move her closer to the desk.” Lee lifted her off her feet and placed her down close to the desk, then lowered her torso over it. Mason placed the cushion under her face, and then Lee lifted her skirt.
“No underwear, Miss Montgomery? That’s against dress code regulations.”
She had to turn her face away from them because more laughter bubbled up. This was beyond anything her imagination could have conjured up. It was silly, but it was also decadent and erotic. “I hate wearing it.”
“Then you just earned extra swats,” said Mason.
The first slap from the strap stung like crazy. She yelled and tried to move away, but Lee moved to her side and placed both hands on her lower back. “Hold still so he doesn’t hit the backs of your legs by accident, Miss Montgomery. You did this to yourself. Don’t forget that.”
Mason struck her again. “It hurts!” She hoped they knew she wasn’t calling a safeword.
“It’s supposed to,” said Mason, smacking her a third time. “Careless secretaries get spanked hard when they break the rules.”
He struck her two more times in a row, and now her ass was on fire. She stepped sideways and Mason stopped. Lee retrieved a spreader bar from the credenza and had it on her ankles before she knew what was happening. Now she was completely at their mercy. Her pussy was soaked, and her nipples hummed. This was far beyond what she’d expected, and she hoped they kept it going for hours.
Lee picked up the paddle and walked behind her, and then he gave her five very hard smacks on her ass with it, stopping for only a second in between each swat. She yelled and tried to squirm away because it really did hurt, but at the same time she hoped they weren’t done. This was exquisite.

*****Excerpt*****

He hunched down in the shadows watching the people who worked for the blood bank leave for the night, all of his senses on high alert. He waited, watched, and half-expected trouble. Rage waited almost an hour after everyone left before he moved. Standing up, he pulled the ski mask down over his face. Dressed all in black with a black backpack, walking quietly, he headed for the back door. Glancing around, making sure once more he was alone, he brought out his kit for picking locks and went to work on it. A quick turn and the lock gave. Also, an alarm started beeping, which he expected. Moving fast, he went over to the box on the wall and hooked up his small electronic device and hacked into the system. He had less than five minutes to turn it off before the place got overloaded with police. He got it shut off in three.
Putting his equipment back in the pack, he waited for his eyes to adjust before he moved into the dark interior. His vision was only half-vampire, meaning he had to compensate for things, like darkness and then bright light. Moving around in the dark was easy, once he adjusted his vision. Locating the stored blood was even easier. He could sniff out where it was stored.
The building looked like any other office space, desks, filing cabinets, and chairs in the front. Multiple small rooms holding tables for donors to lie down as they gave blood were partitioned off in the bulk of the area. All the blood was stored in the back in large refrigerated units.
Being what he and she were, half-breeds, they weren’t restricted to any specific type of blood. He went right up to the large fridge and filled up the pack with bag after bag of blood. He was almost done when a sound off in the distance stopped everything he was doing.
Rage zipped the bag up and closed the fridge door. On silent feet, he headed back the way he came, pulling the gun he’d brought from his back waistband as he walked. The hair on the back of his neck stood up and every damn sense in his body screamed he wasn’t alone.
He wasn’t.
Two men, also clad all in black, were sneaking around in the dark, heading his way. Rage could make out the bags slung over their shoulders, and he picked up the faint scent of Renzo on them. If these two where here at Renzo’s orders, why the hell would they be in a blood bank? Renzo didn’t need blood. Hell, the man didn’t have a vampire to keep alive and torture or need to feed his Breeds any longer. The damn things were dying because of the lack of Elder blood.
He slipped around them and watched as the two split apart. He followed one. Reaching in his back pocket, he brought out a silencer and screwed it on the end of the pistol. Hunching down, he took aim and whistled softly. The guy turned, and Rage shot, dropping him dead to the floor. Turning, he headed for the other one, but at the last second decided not to kill him as quickly.
“Excuse me,” Rage said. The guy turned, the whites of his eyes showing his fear, and Rage hit him hard with his fist, knocking the man down. Before the guy could regain his senses, Rage sat down on his chest, pinning both arms with his legs. “Hello, how you doing?” He smiled.
“My partner—”
“Is bleeding on the floor back there,” Rage finished for him. “You’re one of Renzo’s dipshits. What’s he want blood for?”

*****Excerpt*****

It was the day of Cass' return and even though the house seemed quiet, there was a little bit of a spark in the air. Julian was planning to have a party the next day, inviting some of the most elite of Gables society to show off his son. As Grayson walked downstairs to the pool, he met his father coming out of the home office.
"Grayson," Julian began, "Cass will be in late tonight. We're planning to have breakfast tomorrow at the Biltmore. Can you possibly make it a priority to show up on time?"
Grayson grinned. "What's the matter, Father? Afraid I'll be fashionably late and upset the golden boy?"
Julian looked at his son steadily, unsmiling. He had no idea what he needed to do to get to Grayson, but one day he vowed he would before it was too late. Grayson looked at his father and then looked away. He hated being stared at, especially by the inscrutable Julian Baxter who saw everything and said little.
Grayson sighed and shook his head. "Fine." He could never get the better of the old man and there was no use in wasting time. Giving him one last look, Julian walked away. Grayson ambled to the patio and made a mental note to call Jerry. He needed a little extra boost to last him through his brother's return.

  ***

Grayson jumped in one of the cars and headed over to Jerry's place. He desperately needed a hit of something to take the edge off, and the only place he’d get some peace to enjoy it was outside of the manor.
"And then he looked at me and I just stood there," Grayson said as he took a hit of the weed.
"At least he gives a shit," Jerry replied. "Mine was too busy beating the shit out my mother and me to even say 'boo.' He blamed my mother for his sorry state. She worked her fingers to the bone and when she got pregnant, he beat her so bad she lost the baby. Then blamed her for it."
"Damn, man." Grayson was stunned. Grayson had known Jerry for over ten years and he rarely talked about his family life. It was only when they were in college that he learned Jerry’s father was dead and his mother was in jail, but he never knew why.
"The day my mother offed my father was the happiest day of my life." Jerry stared unblinking at nothing and Grayson could see the grip his memories held him in. "She’d just had enough of the beating, the screaming, the yelling...and she decided it as time." Grayson sat and listened. His life was a fairytale in comparison, and for a moment he felt like a brat. "But my mom was smart." Jerry leaned over and looked at Grayson with a smile on his face. "She’d gotten a special insurance policy on my father and made me the beneficiary. She set it up special so that when my father died, I’d be taken care of and the money wouldn’t be spent willy-nilly by my uncle." Jerry nodded, tapping his forefinger on his temple. "She set up some trust or whatever that paid for school and books and college. She set aside some money to pay my uncle to take care of me, but she did what she thought she needed to do."
Grayson listened and wondered if Joan would have ever done anything like that for him or any of his siblings. He didn't even have to answer because he already knew and it made him sick.

****BIO***

Palessa started reading her first romance novel, at the age of 11. Then she got introduced to V.C. Andrews, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Anne Rice and many more notable contemporary authors as well as some of the classics, A Tale of Two Cities, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Great Gatsby and others. It was during her teenage years that she dabbled in writing.

First, it was in her diaries, then she started creating characters, stories about romance, the supernatural and much more. Being an I.B. student as well as entering college, left little time for writing and so she put it and the ideas aside to pursue a career. It would take almost 20 years, a radical move from the city she grew up in, Miami, FL back to her Caribbean birthplace, and a chance Facebook meeting with Sable Hunter to start the juices flowing again.

After some fits and starts, the Baxter Family Saga was born. Unchained Hearts is Palessa's first published fiction book with Beau Coup Publishing. She considers herself just a storyteller that sees no reason to shy away from the juicier romantic elements. She currently lives in the mountains of Jamaica with her crazy, cracker-munching-mutt Ivy and a farm, primarily managed by agribusiness partner, also known as Dad.

An escaped rapist turned serial killer is hunting her. She was his first and he has plans to be her last. Together can they beat back the demons from her childhood? Will Krista have to face the demon from her past alone, or is she Kade’s for… His Safe Keeping?

*****Excerpt*****

Stepping out of the official cruiser, hand resting lightly on his weapon which was holstered at his hip, Kade walked to the open driver’s side window. Looking into the car, he saw her. She was bent over the steering wheel, her long chestnut colored hair pulled back with a clip.

“Ma’am, is everything all right?” She turned her head and his breath caught in his throat. A beautiful face, streaked with tears squeezed his heart. Without thinking, he abandoned all of his years of training. Without concern for his own safety, he yanked open the door. Squatting down beside the car and balancing on the balls of his feet, Kade spoke to her. “Sweetheart, what’s wrong? Are you hurt? Did you have an accident?”

Turning her head instead of raising it, Krista looked into the greenest eyes she’d ever seen. They were filled with concern. For her? No, she thought, they can’t be. He didn’t even know her. “What did you say? What accident?” Sitting up, she tried to answer and the whole ordeal came back into her mind full force. The nausea hit and this time it wasn’t going to pass. She was going to be sick.

“Ohno!” she exclaimed, just before she covered her mouth with one hand and scrambled to get out of the car, knocking him out of her way. As she ran around the car, Krista made it to the grassy right-of-way just as she began heaving. Her whole body was shaking. The weakness brought her to her knees. When she finally finished, she scooted back against the back car tire, drew up her knees which were now throbbing with pain, and laid her head down on them.

“It never affected me this fast before,” Krista murmured to the big man as he knelt down beside her. Her eyes swept over him. Oh, crap! He was a cop! She was so not up for this. With a sigh of resignation, she held out her wrists, waiting for him to put the handcuffs on and arrest her.

Kade looked at her outreached arms and then at her pale face. Too pale. “What are you doing?”

“Aren’t you going to arrest me?”

“Why would I do that?”
he questioned, confused.

“Well, because I kinda’ knocked you on your booty and you’re a cop. Isn’t that like assault on a police officer or something?” Her voice was weak and she sounded resigned.

“Booty?” He smirked. “No, I’m not going to arrest you.”
